Of the $218M in external research awards Notre Dame received in the 2025 fiscal year, $96M, or about 44 percent, came from federal sources.
The number is on the decline, because of grant cuts and a slowdown by the federal government.

A new federal law will sharply raise taxes on universities with large endowments, including Notre Dame.

In May 1977, Notre Dame student photographer Paul Joyce took a photo at a campus picnic that would become an iconic image of the 35-year presidency of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh.
It came to be known as "The Girl Who Danced with Father Hesburgh."
