Although I am caring for my injured dog, Zach, Thursday is radio day.

Here is a 50 ohm dummy load for testing your radio without an antenna so you can evaluate and not have a spurious emissions.

I made this from a vending machine can of potato soup when I lived in Japan.

Attached to the bnc connector mounted on the cap is a group of resistors wired in parallel and connected back to the ground lug on the bnc connector with a green wire. It is a 50 ohm dummy load for an amateur radio. The entire resistor network can be immersed in mineral oil to help dissipate heat when in operation.

Zach ER update. He rested well and is bright and attentive. More than me, for certain. He is being picky with food and there is still fluid in his chest but no additional fluid has accumulated. More to come.

Visited Zach in the ER for about an hour. He is doing well but still needs observation for fluid in his chest after his second surgery to correct a punctured lung and 4 broken ribs.

1000x this. One of my ancestors had his name changed from Sæbø to Saboe. I have English and Chinese names. They are not remotely the same. And the pinyin or Wade-Giles versions are not my name, only the hanzi is. And no, not giving up either the English or Chinese language versions for the other…

Zach will overnight and be observed by the ER. We will visit him tomorrow and bring him home (again) on Wednesday or Thursday.

Zach was attacked on October 1st by another dog and suffered severe injuries. Please consider helping Zach with his bills.

The surgeon remediated the rib, lung and inspected the healing that was already in progress. He is in good shape, post-surgery.

The surgeon called. Zach is doing well. A laceration in the left lung was found and that section was removed. The 8th rib was very sharp and had likely punctured his lung during the healing process.

He had a good night, ate well and rested well. Likely surgery today to find and seal the holes in his lung.

As a writer and disabled vet, the burden for his care is great.

It is good to remember that the original motto of the US was “e pluribus unum” or “out of many, one.” A motto that the US should still have instead of the cold war artifact “in god we trust.” Not just because so many obviously don’t, but because the first motto was spot on. Never pander to clowns.
