I am still withholding making big conclusions about the election losses this week. As I process, I’m finding some articles resonating with me more than others. While I’m not I’m not sold on 100% of everything here, I wanted to share some pieces I’ve found compelling. 🧵

The Democrats must learn to speak to voters who don’t believe in the politics of old and aren’t interested in returning to it

This is not morally or legally different than lining up two dozen men and shooting them in the face.

Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

The 2026 World Cup is shaping up to have the most exciting race for the Golden Boot in ages, to be waged between Erling Haaland and Mikel Merino.

My takeaway is this is big, if true. This will either be quickly replicated by academic researchers, or it won’t be. But it feels like quite a big finding to be only spotted now…

I think the implication in the CR report & industry responses is that this is naturally occurring lead that is increased in concentrations in the protein powder to a level that is not healthy.
mattbh.com
Well sure. But the real answer is both anabolic steroids and protein powders have been subject to decades of research & decades of use…and one is strongly associated with anger issues (steroids) & the other, until today, was not.

I just assumed that was steroids

Protein is probably the most studied OTC supplement related to health & fitness - feels like a big thing to have missed previously! I'll be very curious to see if this article from Consumer Reports is replicated by academic researchers.
Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports
CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.

I have to imagine that if the war has truly ended there is going to be a rush of grifters coming in to get rebuilding funds

Not even agreement on the number of syllables in his name

An unimportant downside of Hincapie’s early injury & thus lack of minutes is that every Arsenal podcaster has picked their own pronunciation of his name & they’re all different

Though really in fairness to Bob that’s a difference between the 1st act & the 2nd

For sure. And also that his focused was on his sphere of influence, not grand proclamations & flair

Subtle resistance, non-cooperation, quiet bravery, acting based on trust & principle, not self-interest - all of this feels essential in this moment.

Benicio del Toro’s character - a community leader, acting for the good of others, not for money - commanding respect, being organized, helping people because people deserve dignity… it’s the most hopeful thread in the movie for me.
mattbh.com
In my anti-foreclosure organizing days, it was really common that matriarchs & patriarchs in communities facing foreclosure became the people most critical to a campaign’s success. Either when they were impacted or when they stood up and said, “We’re going to help our neighbor keep their home”

The example I always go to is Okazaki during Leicester’s title winning season. It was “Go run like a demon for 45-60 mins and don’t save anything.” I’m surprised more managers don’t use players like that now, especially with five subs

I saw “One Battle After Another” last night. I went in knowing nothing about it & that was probably a mistake.

But the aspects of the movie that were most hopeful were built around community, solidarity & simple resistance built from those starting points.

For sure. I’m grasping at data slices that could be used to validate eye test stuff like “Saka is a 70 minute player” or “with no alternative, Kai got run into the ground at CF & we saw him with less energy” that focus less on long term impacts or injury risks, and more on immediate impact
mattbh.com
And of course we still see this pushed by center-right pundits and activists as a means to disempower the left and push the party right.
mattbh.com
Of course that’s all proxy data for a thesis about minutes management. But it’s the sort of way I’d look for it with public data
mattbh.com
And comparing higher minute players vs those with fewer minutes to see if there is a bigger swing as minutes go up

So chart a 10 game rolling average xG+xA, but also broken down by quintile or decile of a game and see if production is lower later in games later in the season?
mattbh.com
Thesis: a tired player contributes less xG+xA the more fatigued he is, ie later in season and later in games. So evaluating drop off or variation in expected output both over the course of a season & by game period (decile)
