Ps one way round this scenario would be to make a gift aid able £50 donation to charity or increase in pension contribution. That would reduce youre taxable salary so you'd be a basic rate taxpayer

DON'T think, I'll sort my finances when I've time once I'm not working. You're in work, with an income now, so you can truthfully say that on the applications form meaning more chance of acceptance. Sort finances as soon as you've an inkling things may change.
