The Speckled Wood is unique in its ability to spend the winter as either a chrysalis or a caterpillar 🐛💤

Letting your grass grow long and leaving some dead plants is a great way to support this beautiful species throughout its lifecycle.

Single magenta flower of Knapweed, very bright against dried grasses Bright OxEye Daisy is still fresh! Yellow centre & white petals - and now a new bloom has opened beside the first. Cluster of fungi looking like sweet cakes or bread rolls, in long dry grass Two fungi, beige/brown - not sure what variety?

Thank you for clarity. Helps to understand in one way. But as human beings? No words …
Love to all living with this terror.

Are these *thugs* recent recruits? There must be some huge incentive to enlist? $$$ Their behaviour is alarming, violent & appalling (watching from UK 🇬🇧)

New appreciation for a grey day. Plant family enjoyed warm sunshine yesterday, while I struggled with low energy grumps …
Thankful to focus on their cheery faces🌈🥰
Colourful terracotta pot painted with ochre, red & blue swirly flowers.
In the pot is a small Rosa x odorata ‘Bengal Crimson’ - wavy slender stems & darling tiny rosebuds. Irresistible, from Great Dixter plant fair at weekend. In a rusty old metal plant stand (had since 1980s) a terracotta bowl sits within remnants of a twiggy hanging basket.
In the bowl are various succulents.
Behind is a wild grassy bank with purple asters Tall sprays of mauve aster flowers - a pink Old Blush China rose leans into an Elder bush Coral pink flower spikes of Persicaria/Bistort on a bank of mostly dry grasses.

Sort-of #WildflowerHour 🌱🌼
Feverfew, Aster + bee, Borage and a tiny Newt.
Without my specs, I first thought it was an exposed root? 🤓
Delighted ✨🦎
Flower cluster of Feverfew. Daisy-like with white petals & yellow centres. Lime green feathery foliage. Mauve flowers of Aster - some have yellow centres, some have turned brown. A bee is visiting - s/he is amber/brown almost like the spent flowers. Bright blue star-shaped Borage flowers, downy buds, leaves & stems Underneath green OxEye Daisy foliage - a tiny newt on dark soil

💜Cardoon seedhead, cut before the arrival of Storm Amy 🌬️
Grown from seed a couple of years ago, happy that their sturdy stems withstand strong prevailing winds here. A good do-er, very bright in the Summertime 🌞
#FlowersOnFriday 🌱
Cardoon seedhead, like very fluffy blonde hair. Stalk is balanced in a red tin plantpot Upside-down view of a Cardoon seedhead - circular rays of dry brown triangular scales with fluffy seed visible Purple flowerhead of Cardoon in high Summer. Like an enormous thistle. Sunshine Close-up of Cardoon flower, a beautiful spray of slender purple petals on top of a spiky pine cone-like bud

If you don’t like being called a racist, maybe don’t make a career of saying things that appeal to racists, don’t create a political party that keeps attracting racist candidates, don’t fawn over racist world leaders, and don’t make a convicted racist the guest of honour at your party conference.

In previous years there were many more blooms 🤔 Could Summer’s drought be responsible for their no-show this year? Or did resident bank voles eat up all the bulbs? 🐭🌸🌱
Clump of Autumn Crocus flowers groing in sunny grass bank - lovely mauve pink petals

🌸 Solo Autumn Crocus beside Erigeron karvinskianus flowers.
Located in grassy garden bank at the foot of an old Willow stump, maybe more blooms to come?
Is that a Red Dead-nettle - has a white leaf stripe? #wildflowerhour 🌱
