Cutting the levels of affordable homes to just 20% is, in my opinion, the wrong decision and will impact negatively on Londoners, especially the 1000s of children homeless or in temp accom And if that wasn’t bad enough, councils will get the option to not charge developers an infrastructure levy.

While Lavender Hill Police Station’s front counter will only stay open with reduced hours, I am pleased the Met has listened to me on the importance of keeping #Battersea’s only front counter.

Some politicians and commentators continue to denigrate London and talk our great city down, but the facts show a very different picture.

The number of homicides in London in the first nine months of 2025 was lower than in any year since monthly records began 22 years ago.

I have written again to the Met Commissioner to urge him to reconsider the decision to close the front counter at Lavender Hill Police Station.

To ensure continued public trust & confidence, we must retain this critical point of contact.

Dear Commissioner,
In July 2025, I wrote to you to raise my deep concern at the closing of the front counter at Lavender Hill Police Station, the only front counter provision in Battersea and Wandsworth. I am writing again to urge you to reconsider this decision. The proposed closure of this counter will risk the force’s ability to support the victims of crime in my constituency of Battersea and the wider borough.
As we know, front counters allow the public to report a crime and speak to a police officer in person, giving people the trust and confidence that the police will be there when they need them. Undermining this trust in Battersea, an area that has suffered repeated reductions in police services, appears extremely unwise.
Battersea needs more police support, not less. With a high rate of child poverty (32% according to data published by the Child Poverty Coalition) the area needs bolstered police services, to strengthen the community’s resilience to problems such as child criminal exploitation. Removing the front counter could endanger efforts to protect the community, including young people, from crime.
I appreciate the Met is facing a considerable shortfall in its budget, but the public’s safety cannot be put at risk as a result. It is simply not right.
I urge you most strongly to reconsider the decision to close the front counter at Lavender Hill Police Station. I hope the fact that this is my second letter to you on this topic will demonstrate my strength of feeling on this matter, and the strength of feeling of my constituents.

and journalists have been killed. Israel’s restrictions on aid have led to a famine. There continues to be no safe place for civilians in Gaza. British citizens and residents with family members in Gaza are understandably terrified that their relatives will be killed.
