Your point is real, but it rather is that after 89, the East wasnt there anymore, but in the west, a generation trained in system opposition moved into education positions - and they needed an antipole to the own system's claimed Alternativlosigkeit, so they whitewashed the memory.

The loss of memory you allege here seems to me to be a rather younger event. After 1989. Until 1989 noone could ignore the then actual history of repression in the East because it was happening live and it tried to dominate our western antiestablishment scenes as well.

but this is all open history, Even i remember the last ripples of it from the K-group scene in west germany in the 1970s. This was part and parcel of the 1960's antiauthoritarian revolt. They knew precisely how Stalinism worked because the western communist parties were run by Stalinists.

Das ist leider wahr. Ich glaube nicht, dass der Merz wirklich Rassist ist, aber offenbar ist es ihm gleich, mit ein bisschen aufgelegtem Rassismus den rechten rand zu bedienen.
Andrerseits sind auch Rassisten Menschen und Buerger, und wenn es viele davon gibt, sollten auch die repraesentiert sein.

it makes him unpolitical in a way. He doesnt really want power to reshape the Dutch State. He wants to avoid responsibility, but be the rooster outside the club that can always snipoe and be loved for it.
This is good. If he were a power-conscious usurper like Pim Fortuyn was we'd be in trouble.

But you can change the roles if its not good? Here we are not married, but my two Ukrainians have put me in the role of doing things like they want it bc we established that in terms of civilization they are more advanced. Its up to the prospective couple?

Huge unemployment and poverty was also there in Poland, which followed a different course. It was extreme at times. Very harsh to even remember. (Which is part of what makes me cold about the East German claims of how they were mistreated).

To the extent that that's true, we can hardly complain if we let them do the dirty work, that they then get power out of our dependence on it.
We really have to face ourselves here. What do we want - Not be dependent on China? Well we can have that, at a price. Mine ourselves, Refine ourselves.
