An assessment of the new frontiers in the 'is it or isn't it a trade war' spat.

China holds many of the cards when it comes to the speed at which the rest of the world can develop its technologies, does that apply to e-bikes?

I am very encouraged outside of Bosch on this front. A decent percentage of brands now offer at least some anti-theft software feature as standard and wheel locks are also becoming standard at some prices.

Reminds me that i keep meaning to write a bit on the premium upgrade of Bosch software which unlocks some other anti-theft features. I'm not a big fan of paying a subscription for anti-theft features though. Having them included is a big sales perk, so more sales overall, you'd think.

Next-gen Brompton T-line electric folding bike lands, but has it fallen behind?

Having tested a broad range of electric folding bikes, I ask the question whether this e-bike represents good value for money and whether the iconic design endures as an e-bike:

It's not a step backward either, which is too often the expected knee jerked outcome. I'll take evidenced based assessments versus irrational emotional decisions any day.

It is possible to differentiate between DIY e-bikes and manufactured e-bikes, so says the Australian state of New South Wales, which has now banned DIY from its trains, all the while still encouraging manufactured e-bikes.

If one thing has been evident from our Cycling Electric Demo Days, it has been parents getting off to a wobbly start on cargo bikes.

Both points raised in the review. To my taste there's much better for the price, which is a shame as this is a new generation of ebikes.

We have the first of a handful of next-generation Raleigh e-bikes in for review. The Hockley is your leisure and commuter comfort build, challenging a competitive price point at £2,699.

A solid base, but a few curious minors on the test sheet:

As of today I'm a +1. The first time I've ever been a member of any. Climate has long been no.1 for me, but it is your wealth tax stance that got me over the line. Good luck and keep fighting for us all.

Almost all mid-motors i've tried this year have had enough to cope with southern UK terrain. Getting rarer to find something that struggles.
We have four demo days again next year, if you want to try a bunch side by side.

My advice would be not to wait too long. For supply chain reasons, the prices won't dip much lower than they are right now.

Ah bummer. The bike industry is asking Government to look at this, it needs sorting. On the plus side, quality is trickling down to lower prices fast.
marksuttonbike.bsky.social
I reckon the best option if it's open to you is to keep an eye on models you want, look for a discount and then use the cycle to work scheme to shave off more cash. That could have the price.
