I wonder what Reality Winner thinks about all this. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison for sharing classified information with a journalist. In her case, the information wasn't war plans, it was the revelation that Russian hackers had accessed U.S. voter registration rolls.
Archibald Cox subpoenaed the Watergate tapes. Nixon ordered his A.G. Richardson to fire Cox. Public outrage led to Nixon's eventual resignation. Nixon still successfully fired the guy appointed to independently investigate him. Was Watergate worth it if we were just going to wind up here?
