As war approaches and an old enemy stirs, only an outcast soldier and the last member of a near-mythical order stand against the rising darkness.

THE LAST VIGILANT is out now!

That ship has sailed. Gas masks are on order.

I can never find tinned pumpkin in stores. Good tips on the seeds and blueberries. He's allergic to a bunch of stuff, plus we're trying to avoid a flare up of pancreatitis, so fat has to be super low.

He's on a special diet, before you think I've gone mad. Since we moved him off his normal food, he's been losing weight, so we need to bulk up on nutrition without adding fat. Very tricky!

Just me cooking up sweet potatoes and roast pumpkin to make mash for my dog...

I wish I hadn't just looked that up.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I wish I could remember useful things. But alas, there's no room because my brain is stuffed with long-disconnected landline numbers.

I still remember my old home number, my friends' numbers, the local Chinese takeaway (no longer local), and two Stoke-on-Trent taxi numbers from 1998. About 5 years ago I was back home, and one of those taxi numbers still worked.

In a nutshell though, they're focussing on the War of The Ring as if the ideological battle lines just appeared, fully formed, with neat little factions ready to fight. Completely ignoring the many years of subterfuge, deceit and corruption that led to that point.

Sub-nominate @mytholder.bsky.social, whose LOTR analysis makes me feel like I've only ever read the Spark notes 😅

God it's so gross hearing reporters talk about Israeli "hostages" but then refer to Palestinian "prisoners held without charge" like what's the material difference between these two categories?

Anyway, a reminder that musical taste is entirely subjective, and it's always dicey striking up conversation with strangers before they've had their morning coffee.

I was in a coffee shop just, and Sultans of Swing was on the radio. The guy next to me said he liked the song, but he preferred Twisting by the Pool. I laughed because I thought he was joking, and he got quite offended.

Completing Paradroid remains my greatest achievement in videogaming.

40 years ago, Paradroid was on ZZAP!'s cover. We rated this amazing game 97%. Other top reviews: Little Computer People Discovery Kit (97%), Epyx' epic multisports sim Winter Games (94%), Wizard's Lair (89%), Hacker (87%), and Infocom's stellar Starcross text adventure (94%).

I've literally just been scouring it 😆

I will note that she *hates* whiskey, but still rated it above average. The Amaro really reins it in.

I'm such a glassware geek, but it is getting out of hand. Apparently, cupboard space is finite. Who knew?

We're getting into the spooky season cocktails now. This is a "Devil's Soul". Dramatic, I know. Very boozy, but very well-balanced. 5/5 from me, but Mrs L is not a whiskey person, and didn't like it as much.

A reminder that E. Nesbit wrote the greatest opening to a ghost story ever.
THIS is not an artistically rounded off ghost story and nothing is explained in it; and there seems to be no reason why any of it should have happened. But that is no reason why it should not be told. You must have noticed that all the real ghost stories you ever come close to are like this in these respects: no explanation, no logical coherence. Here is the story.

I spent last week in a very quiet house in the middle of nowhere. Every time I was alone with my thoughts, I could just hear the EEEEeeeeeeeeee louder than ever.
