Ok but my Lakewood polling place being busy as hell for a municipal election is fun as hell. Tax the rich to pay for school lunches!!
That worked!! I'm a former subscriber so maybe they're trying to force me back! Thank you!!
Is the newsletter separate from this link you posted? Because when I click the above link it says you must be a subscriber.
On Thursday members of the JBC asked "since we're meeting with Polis tomorrow, can we ask him to increase the amount of funds to help with SNAP cuts. The answer was no, because the proposal can't be amended. Looks like the answer is no because he won't be there.
When SNAP gets "turned on" again it will take 10 days to get loaded onto EBT cards.

😬
Oh, so it's NOT the Dems voting to not release it. Interesting because earlier this morning and every other morning Mikey Jo said it's the Dems fault but clearly it's the "administration's discretion".
SNAP benefits must continue despite shutdown, judge tells Trump administration share.google/ucbdQk9D2QKq...

The lawyer, Tyler Becker, also argued it was the administration's discretion whether to use $6 billion in contingency funds already set aside by Congress to continue issuing SNAP benefits.
I was just on a call with pantries in our Denver precinct & fights are already being reported. @coloradogovernor.bsky.social Polis please declare a state of emergency so county emergency management can coordinate logistics with food pantries. Our helpers are already hurting, please help.
It's disappointing because had Polis and the JBC worked together we could maybe get more money. But they negotiated unilaterally with Feeding Colorado and by the time the JBC got to it, there wasn't much time to get things figured out. I hate to see all levels playing politics with basic needs.
At the JBC meeting Senator Kirkmeyer wanted to get food pantries $50 million, from emergency not general funds and wants the Governor to declare a state of emergency so that county emergency management can assist with logistics.

But the proposal couldn't be changed. The $10 million passed.
Don't forget to leave your receipts for those whose SNAP runs out. Don't ask, don't tell. πŸ€«πŸ«£πŸ˜‰
This is why we need this man as our next governor because he actually fights for the people. Thanks Phil!
Doing our food bank order for our food pantry this week. The only free offerings are: winter squash, water, ketchup packets.

The rest we have to buy. As far as we know, our pantry won't even qualify for the extra food that will be bought if the JBC approved the $10 million emergency funds.
Polis won't give direct assistance to SNAP recipients because DT won't reimburse it. It's going to be all on the charitable food system. Hopefully he will at least declare an emergency so that logistics can be coordinated. Let's hope that there isn't violence at the grocery stores & pantries. 🀞
States that have activated the National Guard or declared states of emergency over SNAP cuts:
California
Virginia
Louisiana

I hope other states follow suit because our charitable food system can not handle it. The logistics & infrastructure just isn't there. We need help. 😟
Did you know that many food pantries purchase their food from food banks?

In the Denver metro, many food pantries go to the Food Bank of the Rockies warehouse with personal vehicles to pick up their orders.

Not sure the on the logistics of providing 10x the need with 0% of the assistance.
