The city is basically a compact open world. Replace grass plank with buildings and it’s the same concept. Not super big but uses the full space. It’s nice!

Wonder if they just could not find a way to make environments feel distinct enough. Have to imagine it would have been kind of the exact same level design again if it was just in ancient plains.

The only thing that really doesn’t work for me so far is the carried over “catch the same thing a bunch to complete missions.” Worked in Arceus as a game about studying Pokemon. It’s completely shoehorned in here and you forget it’s a thing you’re supposed to do.

Yeah absolutely. It really feels like the only link is “look these games let you catch shit by throwing the ball, let us do whatever we want with the rest.”

Not a problem at all! A strength of anything! But definitely surprising to go from “historical focused Pokemon lore game that takes notes from Pokemon Go and Monster Hunter” to “French open world real time battle gauntlet game.”

Really enjoying Pokemon Legends: Z-A so far, a game that makes a good case for compact open-worlds over endless boredom. But I’m also wondering, what IS Legends as a series? A completely different thing than Arceus, which is great, but also some awkward leftover DNA from that game that doesn’t fit.

okay the fashion in this game does fuck
A Pokemon Legends Z-A character poses next to a Beedrill. She is wearing a brown sweater.

Did not realize it was the same dev until right now but that makes total sense.

Ball X Pit is a great podcast game in the vein of Loop Hero. More interaction than that, but balls go bounce whoooo. Found it to be a bit of a grind in the long run and it stopped me from unlocking the very cool sounding late characters, but it’s neat!

Probably a basic answer but Homogenic. Medulla right behind it though.

It's really charming, and one of those "could only be a game" kinda games.

My favorite game of 2023. Has only grown more relevant since launch as a game about online communities falling apart. Can’t recommend it enough.

Oh man so many review templates ago!!! And so many busted page elements lol
marioprime.bsky.social
I can picture exactly what that would have been but have no memory of it. Completely out of my brain. And I own it???

just remembered the existence of battlefield hardline, a game that i have not heard a thing person speak of since 2015, including through several rounds of “battlefield has lost it” waves. this game exists right? i’m not making a game up?
