Yes, the Census shows him at Hull Bridge with his wife and two sons. I hadn’t see that picture before, it would surely have been similar in those years.
I have his smoking cap ☺️
Is that at Tickton? My Gt Gt Grandfather was moored up there on the 1881 Census.
It is a long time since I was last up there.
Totally not thought about that at all but now you mention it … I shall ponder. I do have family connections to Somme events in 1916.
My granddaughter says that every visit to grandma’s house is a history lesson 😊😆
Does that count?
Agreed. I do that often, but I tend to search for hardback copies first.
I believe that elements of this crown were incorporated into (or influenced) the design of the Crown on the coffin for Richard III reinterment.
I must make an effort to see it, I have a fascination with Margaret of York. I often visit Damme, where she was married to Charles, and Bruges (my son lives nearby). Also Sluis where she landed and first met Charles. This photo is a statue of Margaret on Damme Town Hall.
I took almost the same photo earlier this year.
I rather like the doorway just along to the right too (shame about the modern label).
I have loved the Vulcan since they used to fly over our house when based at nearby Finningley. Did some volunteer work for XH558 more recently. Had a great experience at Coventry - I got to climb up the ladder into a full aircraft to sit in pilot and navigator seats. Didn’t want to get out!
Today we said goodbye to our beautiful, funny, loving, gentle little TashCat, gone to join her brother TimothyCat in that great playground o’er yonder.
How I will miss her snuggles and cuddles. Farewell my little MissMiss, thank you for 15 years of joy 😢😿💔
2/2 invaluable. My maternal Grandad died when I was 2 but I always knew he served in RE at Ypres in WW1,we had medals etc. But I wanted to know more. Eventually finding his Field Company details I have been able to get a full picture from war diaries and followed some of his steps in 2015-2018.
I was lucky to grow up around older relatives who talked about their own elders so names & stories were always in my head. Dad started the Family Tree in the 1970s, talked to older relatives collecting more stories and photos which he named where known. His precise and detailed notes have been 1/2
I have my eye on that, looking forward to it.
This is one I am currently reading.
No problem. Not after I was locked in the dimly lit crypt of York Minster, age 12. To hear the huge wooden door creak closed and the key turn in the lock. My cousin & I expected to be plunged into darkness & left until morning! About 5 long minutes later another door opened & a school party came in!
I love these. I asked my son to make one for my garden, that was 3 years ago and it hasn’t happened yet 😆
He went through Heck too then 😊
Got off and back on the bus there every time we went to Donny.
A couple of marriages there in my family tree.
That’s brilliant. What a great idea.
🤦🏻‍♀️
Although I do love mince pies, very tempting!

The striking form of Howden Minster, Yorkshire. Dating mostly from the 14th century, the building suffered the loss of its choir roof in the C17th. Its grandeur is a lasting reminder of the Minster’s historic ties to the powerful bishops of Durham.
If I was up there I would join in like a shot. That’s the canal I grew up next to (then a working canal) and along which my ancestors plied their trade in their keels.
What? That’s less than 10 miles from me!
Start as you mean to go on I say!! Although it didn’t look quite as smart as this back in middle of the last century 👵🏻😆
This was my place of birth (maternal grandparents). Place of residence, another pub (paternal grandparents) 🤷🏻‍♀️
And, my Tree is full of landlords and beer house keepers 🍺🥃🍻
