This reminds of the emotional toll ICE inflicts on those they detain. Victims may eventually be released, but realizing that you might suddenly have your window smashed, be dragged from a vehicle, thrown to the ground, and dragged off to who knows where may cause a lifetime of psychological issues.

The failure of Pam Bondi to respond to senators’ questions, her contemptuous answers, the special treatment of Maxwell, her categorization of protests against fascism, and her department’s rapid response to Trump’s demand they prosecute his enemies tells me that she and the DOJ are not trustworthy.
I’d be curious to know what really happens in these negotiations. What, exactly, did the Trump administration do to get the Israeli hostages released? How many agreements were made that are under the table and that citizens will never learn about?

Statutes defining what constitutes a “news organization” could be written. Hard, yes, but not impossible. It could protect legitimate news organizations. We do this already with product advertising, certification of professionals, labeling of hazardous materials, etc.
Lying is illegal when it comes to the labeling of medications. Why not make it illegal to lie when telling something under the guise of “news” like Fox or key political information like Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt puts out?
Not only was Trump still President at that time, Biden had never even served as President and thus never had control of the FBI until 2 weeks after Jan 6, 2021.
I wish interviewers had explicitly pointed that out to listeners, that Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House and a Republican has unitary control of when session of the House of Representatives occur. Johnson has barred them from being in session rather than working to come to an agreement.

Trump has failed to remember that just a little over 4 years ago, he’d already been President for almost 4 years and was still in office. Biden had never been President at this time.

“Detention” is not an appropriate description for what’s happening. Imprisoning someone, no matter for how short a time, for no reason other than a government employee wanted to, should and can never be acceptable in a lawful society.
Trump and his political operatives are making statements to foment civil unrest, pushing fear on both sides. They tell stories to the right so they will fear the left and threaten political leaders on the left to incite fear of arrest. They hope to justify declaration of martial law.

The severe harm fake news programs like those on Fox can bring to bear on a society are becoming ever more apparent. The US requires proper labeling on medications because of the harm they can cause. We need to do the same things with networks and shows that falsely label themselves as “news.”
