If you don't understand this reference you're either:
- too young
- too normal
- don't watch any British television

Pulp paperbacks are back in vogue, not for the genre but the size and regularity of the stories. More akin to TV than to movies - familiar characters in a new adventure every few months.

I am saddened to report that @atomicpulp.bsky.social has passed away after a long fight with kidney disease. I hope that this post and your reaction to it provided him some small comfort in his final moments. Chris was respected not only for his talent but for his independence. Bon voyage friend!

HOT TAKE: This is how the next #BATMAN movie should look...

The reason for the profile post on SECRET AGENT X last week was the fact we are showcasing a story by writer Paul Chadwick (aka "Brant House") in the next issue of MEN'S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY. PC wrote for #pulps, #MAMs, and paperbacks - a pulp culture trifecta!

Bonfils was the key artist for Corinth's porn titles, and worked extremely fast designing eye-catching covers. Odd angles, dynamic color, and captivating subjects were all in his wheelhouse. Sadly, Corinth's mainstream book distribution was spotty and the series failed to catch on.

I ❤️ SERIES PAPERBACKS! Here's the seven 1960s pulp reprints by porn publisher Corinth. Written by Paul Chadwick under the house name of "Brant House" the original 1930s series was given a new mod look by cover illustration great Robert Bonfils. (more)

Thanks to Jim Rugg, I have discovered spy-adventurer comic LEO DEREK. A timeless relic of the 80s before its time. Gorgeous NEWSPRINT in a large format magazine. You need to get it here: www.powerpulpcomics.com

One of the 2-page spreads I am working on for the upcoming 13th issue of MEN'S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY. Given the recent kerfuffle of Amazon sanitizing the guns out of their James Bond thumbnail images, I thought it appropriate.

Would this work with our Cinexploits! line of books? A film festival with the movies we have explored? Odd cinema, exploitation, SciFi, Action, etc...

I can recall interviewing Chris Preksta way back in the day for my blog. It's a great example of good concepts realized economically with great production. I wish more folks followed the model. I think they could do well in this era of Verticals aka Microdramas.

It's really well produced and uses its limitations (single location, small cast) as assets for the story. It's cast well, giving us memorable performances without the need of celebrity. VFX are top-notch and reflect their serial and B-movie roots, but in a new way.

Revisiting this serial for research, and development on something I am exploring with @wcmartell.bsky.social.

I would not be opposed to seeing more of this sort of pulp entertainment on my TV, Computer, and Phone.

Back in the day there was a Japanese laserdisc, so there's a chance the original film negative elements exist somewhere. I ❤️ the idea the film starts w/ a scene from the invasion of Poland, and ties it back to Ming later on.

I wish this movie had received more airtime than it did. A wonderful tribute to Alex Raymond's comic strip that didn't try to update Flash, but leaned into and polished up his 1930s aesthetic.
