Before Fall Break, students in Weather Analysis and Instrumentation took a field trip to the USGS Sleepers River Research Watershed to learn about hydrologic instruments, including snow tubes. They also got to see some beautiful fall foliage in the Northeast Kingdom!💧❄️🌲🍁

Day 7: We had one last team building activity before our closing ceremony. For the poster symposium, GIV students presented posters to friends and family, showcasing what they learned at our week-long institute. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this amazing summer experience! #stayintouch

Day 5: For instrumentation day, GIV students got to launch both a radiosonde and windsond weather balloon. They also got to learn about instrumentation in the Antarctic from Dr. Matthew Lazzara - Principal Investigator of the Antarctic Weather Station Program. #instrumentation #balloon #antarctic

Day 4: This was our big field trip day to Burlington! GIV students got to see the operations area at NWS Burlington and watch a live broadcast @wcax.com. We had lunch at Oakledge Park before heading back to the Lyndon campus for a Twisters movie night! #Burlington #NWS #WCAX #Twisters

Day 3: We had a fantastic time with Mark Breen during our tour of the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium. GIV students learned about climate change and its impacts on local farms like Chandler Pond Farm. Students also heard from Solphi Veltrop at the Vermont Climate Action Office. #climateaction

Day 2: VT high schoolers at the GIV Weather & Climate Science Institute discussed midlatitude cyclones, contoured weather maps, learned about severe weather and storm chasing with a tornado chamber demonstration, and enjoyed a fun Kahoot review session. #severewx #tornadoes

On our way back to New York, we saw gorgeous mammatus clouds in Oklahoma and one last supercell in Missouri. Students are now back at Oswego wrapping up their research projects! 🚐⛈️📊

We had a very exciting end of our trip! We saw another tornado near Sundown, TX. We saw beautiful supercell structure with this storm, including a breathtaking beaver tail. The next day we launched a weather balloon at Lake Colorado City State Park and got to see a thunderstorm break the cap. 🌪️⛈️🎈

We have had a very active past few days. We saw a majestic supercell in New Mexico and experienced its RFD winds. We ran into the ICECHIP team and got to see the DOW radar. We also saw a wedge tornado near Lubbock, TX yesterday. We have two chase days left! ⛰️🧊🌪️ @vermontstateu.bsky.social
