Anyways this is just a random train of thoughts, I am a lover of analyzing media and I love warping canon to fit my tastes but I think it's important to be aware of when you're warping it so you can also recognize and interact with canon accurately you know?

None of these are bad things but I do think often people don't know the difference between Genuine and Personal interpretations and that can lead to people getting upset when canon or even other fans conflict with their personal interpretation of the characters.

Canon: the media itself

Genuine interpretation: Your understanding of literally what happens in canon.

Personal interpretation: Warping your canon interpretation to fit your view of how you want it to be

Headcanon: Something you made up that may or may not have canon backing

There's ALSO a secret third thing which is personal interpretation which tends to sit between HC and genuine interpretation. I will attempt to explain because I think in a healthy fan environment it's good for folks at least to have a vague understanding of these things

It's good and healthy critical thinking and analytical skills to seperate headcanon from genuine interpretation of a media's contents. Something conflicting with your HC doesn't mean your HC or canon is bad and when genuinely analyzing a media HC should never come into play tbh
