VERY IMPORTANT LIFE UPDATE. Good news I promise! I have attached the full explanation as attachments (alt text friendly). But here's the gist:

-I put in my two weeks
-I will now have more time to work on my project(s)
-I am ready for work in the industry
-If you know of any work, paid/unpaid, lmk!
PAGE 1

Update:

I figured this would be an easier way to say everything at once, instead of making a massive bluesky comment chain. I have some big news to share.
As many know, I have been doing my indie dev work when I could after my full-time job work shifts (so basically the late hours of the weekdays). and it was taking up a lot of my mental bandwidth to do. Part of the problem is that the job I had was completely divorced from anything dev related. So, to compensate, I had to take it upon myself to teach myself literally everything when I could. It was tough, but I was making do.

However, as time went on, it became apparent that if I kept going at the route I had been on, it was never going to be an easy jumping off point to start considering work in game dev, be it directly related or an offshoot of it. To put this in perspective, I graduated April 1st of last year with my bachelors, and it’s April 1st now, again. A whole year, and I had told myself I would have been actively seeking work a few months after graduation.

Quite a wake-up call to realize that. All this to say, as of last night I made a very important decision: It was time to rip the band aid off and throw in my two weeks. That’s right: In two weeks, I will be officially on the hunt for work myself.

It’s admittedly a bit scary. I don’t feel like I am ready, but in reality, I don’t feel like I ever “would” be ready. So, with that news, I want to give everyone an update on what this means:

(EXPLANATION CONTINUED ON PAGE 2)

CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1:

As far as indie dev goes: I will be able to pour a LOT more time into learning what I need to make my first game. This is not going to change. It was ultimately the most important part for me when I was making this consideration. I am in my late 30’s, and this learning stuff is getting more tough as the years go on. I just need more time, and this is one of the best ways to get that. Work on my game(s) is not going to slow or stop: It’s going to increase.

As far as work goes: It’s going to be incredibly important for me to find work in something game dev related. There are a couple of reasons for this. One being, building up valuable and much needed experience so I can start capitalizing on my time spent, and start building up a much stronger foundation to make things a lot easier on me. This is probably going to be more on the coding/programming side of things, or something of that nature. Or a job related to it.

As far as bluesky goes: Nothing changes, you’re stuck with me lol. If anything, I would be more active, but I am not going anywhere.

PAGE 2 START:

How you can help: I will be jobless, but I will be fine for a while, but of course the sooner I find work, the better! If you happen to know of any work, be it paid, or unpaid, please just keep me in mind and toss it my way! I am not picky. I don’t have a specialty, but I do tend to do better with coding/programming stuff where I have the most experience in. I am also an Unreal Engine dev, and I do not use Godot or Unity. The sooner I dive into the industry, the better. Otherwise? I am going to be working on my own stuff in the meantime!

That should just about cover everything. But, I really want to make sure everyone is on the loop, and I know long papers like these usually mean bad things. It’s not: Just traditionally long winded me spouting off some updates and happenings.

That’s all, I will see ya’ll on bluesky. Very excited for the future!

I really, really like how you dithered the sky and the structure to the right. I haven't really delved too far in learning that yet. Just been doing basic highlight and shadow tones basically.

But that looks great! Congrats!

One of the times I was watching one of those videos, it was recommended to me to watch a horse hoof cleaning video, and they were cleaning the hoof, and basically getting it ready to have a new horse shoe put on. They knew their audience. lol.

Here's some of the other things from the lesson that share the same work space lol, so you can see the scraps and doo dads.
A series of isometric drills and stuff I was doing to make the final room shape. You can see various tile shapes, thicknesses, angles, and even a couple of self-made assets of what look like futuristic doors. I have some line angles drawn in, a little heart, and a study on shape profiles that wasn't filled in.

Small update, but it's still coming along. Kind of cool to see things take shape and how everything works together #pixelart #gamedev.

For this part of the class I am not too focused on doing my own thing just yet, trying to get close to what the teacher has so I can learn the fundamentals.

Does this have to do with the manifesting? :D

The box that held one of those files just not popped. It didn't pop for me until the next playthrough over. Just my guess. I hope it ends up spawning in for you though. I am definitely curious which one is being the problem child.
luchalutra.bsky.social
Something else that might be happening (just to consider, I scrubbed to see if you were going through your files in the most recent archive), is there was a bug pretty early on where the files simply didn't spawn in. That mainly happened with me for the fate of the apostate trophy. Basically-
luchalutra.bsky.social
That one was tricky because iirc it's physician #5 that only appears in NG+ onwards, and it's in the library/archive area early on in otherworld.

But you aren't missing much. You definitely have enough to know the true story behind all of that. But that's my guess as to which one you are missing.
luchalutra.bsky.social
This is so much fun to look at, especially the thumbnail!
luchalutra.bsky.social
I swear I have seen this character before. Is she from Lain?
luchalutra.bsky.social
Ok good, just wanted to make sure. They are very subtle and easy to miss on that run. I had to double back on a fifth playthrough to grab one I glossed over.
luchalutra.bsky.social
Did anyone bring up to you how some of the files are difficulty specific and progression specific? I haven't been following too closely, but with you gearing up to attack NG++, you still have a few little specific files to grab if you want the full story on a few characters.

Also! Thanks for reminding me about ZamN! Learning pixel art right now, and the perspective they have going on is worth study. Especially with how they dither.

This boss, has a variant that is like two or three of them in a later stage, and they move so fast. Everytime they are on screen is a jump scare. Haaaaate it.

Far scarier than the tremor worms.
luchalutra.bsky.social
I didn't know you made one for publishers too, that's awesome!

and thanks btw! This stuff helps out a great deal. I know I have used these to find follows that I otherwise would have scraped for.

I've really been digging the casual dress series so far!

(I mean, it's less so a series, but I hope you get what I mean).
luchalutra.bsky.social
I am so bad at discord. I really would do well with that, but I just can't manage too many at once. Bluesky helps me with the short form much easier, and easier to keep track of convos.

Hound nose helm's let's fuckin gooooo

(pssst, you should totally do a Sallet next, the best of all helms)

I am not biased and you have no proof.

Basically, exactly what the tin describes. You are going live now, so this won't be the best use of time at the moment to play around with probably, but in the future, it's definitely an option.

Anyways, I won't be able to attend the stream att, but I wish you the best! Have fun!

Hi Emily, if you are still curious on the best path forward, some streamers I have watched in the past used websites that allowed you to make a wheel of the games. I will try to get you a link really quick.
luchalutra.bsky.social
Dracula totally would say this.
luchalutra.bsky.social
and that's basically the long and short of it, in terms of how I see it. :P

Sorry for the novels! But I wanted to cover all bases.
luchalutra.bsky.social
It will "always" be worth it to me to talk to people, from all walks of life, in a structure that allows for open communication.

That's even how I met you! How I meet everyone, really lol. Humans are awesome, but you can't know people if you never speak out or make the first step.
luchalutra.bsky.social
I can only really do that by just being myself and talking to people organically when the mood strikes. Because that's a key factor to me. I see this platform no different than any other social outing. I am not naturally an extrovert, and ironically am more introverted, but here I can reach people.
