Planning an Activation Rove? Michael recommends Ham-Map.com
Many thanks to Michael (OK7SE) who writes: Hello Thomas. Michal (OK1SIM) has put together an online map that might be useful for activation planning. You might want to check it out: I usually activate "what's available," so I like that I can generate a map that aggregates SOTA, POTA, GMA, and WWFF for a target place (e.g., when I go to Austria for a trip) so I can see what's nearby my accommodation, etc.

Happy New Year! A Fresh Start and Update on 2024 Correspondence
Good Morning! It's January 1st, 2025, and I'd like to wish you a very Happy New Year! I mentioned on Patreon yesterday that, in a sense, I’m happy to see 2024 in the rear-view mirror. Frankly, it was a tough year for our family in many ways, but even amidst the challenges, there were moments of celebration and joy.

Saltwater Activation: Always Wanted to Try This…
I finally got to try something I’ve always dreamed of: proper QRP saltwater ground-planing! This week, we’ve been in Beaufort, North Carolina—a charming coastal town that I can’t recommend enough. As I mentioned in a post last week, I brought along my Elecraft KX2 and KH1 for the trip. On Tuesday, we hopped on a small boat/ferry to Cape Lookout National Seashore (US-0683).

The PiZero 2W spectrum recorder runs for 7 hours on two 18650s & a step-down 5V converter (which doesn’t seem to add measurable noise on HF). And of course the batteries are hot-swappable as the unit has its own small UPS battery. The only limitation is the amount of free space on the MicroSD card 📡
