When people think "Latin music," they often think salsa and merengue. But Diego loves rock en español. So do thousands of others in London's Latin community.
The problem? There was nowhere to hear it, nowhere to celebrate it.
So Diego created that space himself.
Today is National Coming Out Day. For 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers, coming out can mean extra challenges.

Allies: display visible support, speak up against discrimination, create safer spaces.

Coming out is personal; respect everyone's choices.
Diego came to London for his wife's education in 2016. Today he's staying for his son—and the vibrant Latin community he helped build at Casa Latina.
"I just think about what I can do, and I do it."
That's how you build a city. 🎵🏡

Diego Chiluisa came to London for his wife's research opportunity. He couldn't pursue formal education as planned. So he taught himself coding, created custom karaoke content, and built Latin music spaces at Casa Latina.

Diego came to London for his wife's education. Stayed to build something better: a space for ALL Latin music — rock, soul, not just salsa stereotypes.
His dream: Latin Rock concert in London.

Immigrant women in London: often overqualified, usually underemployed. Doctor → PSW. Teacher → retail. Engineer → gig work. Not because they lack skills—because Canada won't recognize them. This Women's History Month, let's fix that. #ImmigrationMatters #LdnOnt
Today is International Lesbian Day 🏳️🌈

For lesbian newcomers: you belong in London & Middlesex. Your identity and contributions matter.

Building truly welcoming communities means supporting ALL identities.
One month. That's how long Diego and his wife had to sell everything they owned in Ecuador and move to Canada. The university acceptance came in August. Classes started in September.
"We sell everything. And we came here like, like that."

London & Middlesex: 11,325 Latin American residents, 9,855 Portuguese community members. When we use inclusive terminology, everyone belongs. October celebrates them all. Casa Latina at 150 Dundas is the place to connect. #LatinAmericanHeritageMonth
Latin American Heritage Month includes everyone from Latin America—Spanish, Portuguese & Indigenous language speakers. Hispanic Heritage Month? Spanish-speakers only. Brazil is Latin American but not Hispanic. Language matters for inclusion. 🇧🇷 #LdnOnt
October = Hispanic Heritage Month in Canada! 🎉 London is home to 11,325+ Latin American residents. Our Colombian community earned us the nickname "Londombia"! Visit Casa Latina (150 Dundas) for cultural events. Let's celebrate diversity! #HispanicHeritageMonth #LdnOnt

Diego came to London as a technician who loved working with music. He spent seven years cooking in kitchens.
"I hate cooking," he admits. But like many newcomers, you take the work you can get. The question becomes: how long can you live a life that isn't yours?
