I like to think these ants fooled the researchers into thinking they were dead and once dumped in the trash they shook themselves off (but not too much, they are dirt ants after all) and scurried off to live their mysterious lives.

This is a genuinely heartwarming example of people having a love for wildlife and understanding that life is difficult for bears in suburban areas and that extra patience and understanding should be extended. Coexistence requires us to value life and not see nonhuman life as endlessly expendable.

I guess the startling thing to me is... what goes on in the mind of someone who thinks this is a good idea? I mean, it feels like that mind is so alien from the usual as to be difficult to communicate with. It's a kind of derangement that feels so foundational as to require quarantine.

I've got a lovely, rotund dunnock hanging around recently.
I think he must be this year's brood as he's super puffed-out, much more than the dunnocks of previous years. A huge wood-pigeon then saw him off, into the undergrowth.
