And by the way, there’s another replay where you can see 1B originally ran toward second, then went all the way back to first when he thought it was caught, and there, he encountered … the batter. Then he figured it out, turned around, and ran to second, where he encountered the didn’t-run 2B.

Right. Combination of great defensive play in the field and some regrettable baserunning (though figuring out what’s going on in the moment was probably challenging, because it really looked like a catch).

Yep, no catch, so just a regular hit ball with a force at every base (because they were loaded). So 3B has to run home, and he didn’t make it. 2B didn’t even realize he needed to run to third. 1B made it to second, at which point 2B realized they shouldn’t BOTH be on second. But it was too late.

When I got there today, their computers were down. I was afraid they were going to send me home and make me do it all again (SIGH) but fortunately things came back online.

I made a critical adulting error today. Routine bloodwork, but I made the appointment in the afternoon.

So I didn’t eat until 3:30.

And they SUCKED OUT MY BLOOD while I was VERY HUNGRY.

Right! I have been known to be really frustrated with people (when I’m the customer) when it has more to do with me than anything. I try very hard to tell them that (“I know this isn’t your fault,” etc.) but it still happens.

One more story about stars: When Ari Shapiro’s book was coming out, I said, “Do not look at Amazon reviews. Do NOT. Please. They will write ‘one star, got wet on my porch.’”

He laughed. And then when his book came out, someone left a bad review because they didn’t like the thickness of the paper.

I assume they want the app to look like every property they have is five stars. So if you get four-star reviews, they can demote you, kind of.

Right! I have been impatient with service people, even on one memorable occasion when I later realized I was wrong. I’m very lucky that person didn’t get to give me stars.

(P.S. I do know that the AirBnB thing has to do with the platform penalizing hosts for four-star reviews. As usual, it’s the system/setup that’s mostly to blame, not the individual you’re talking to.)

Oh, I know it’s because of how the platform acts. (I assume they want to perpetuate the fiction that they only have five-star properties.) I know the hosts are reacting to pressures being placed on them.

Oh, let me be clear: I know that people react this way because the system they are in does punish them for not getting five stars. I am aware of the Superhost thing, even. This isn’t mostly a problem with the hosts, but with the system and the platform. Yes, she was being extra, but I get why!

Right! That’s what these rental hosts say! That you should reach out to the person and ask why they apparently HATED the place and see if you can get them to change it.
