RIP Tomonobu Itagaki, visionary behind the Dead or Alive series and reinvigorating the Ninja Gaiden franchise - passed away at 58.

DoA3 and Ultimate, plus Ninja Gaiden, were key reasons behind me picking up an Xbox again several years ago.

Today I lost someone who was truly like a brother to me. I am gutted to the core. I guess I can say so now that it's on his Facebook page. He even listed himself as my actual brother on Facebook. Anyone who knows me knows how close we were. RIP, senpai. You will always be a ninja.

according to a notice on his Facebook page, Tomonobu Itagaki has passed away at the age of 58. No details were shared, but the statement expressed his misgivings about “failing to produce a new game for the fans”

The 2nd entry in the series, Dead or Alive 2 retains key gameplay components such as the Offensive Hold and Defensive Hold system. In addition to environmental terrain, Tag Battle Mode was also introduced, allowing players to fight each other in teams.

Sometime this month 26 years ago, Dead or Alive 2 was originally released at arcades in JP. It was developed by Team Ninja and published by Tecmo.
