My husband buys us a new calendar every year. This year, he picked one with quotes and calligraphy by Thich Nhat Hanh.

May we all find peace, joy, & kindness this year. 🙏
Photo of a calendar with a quote by Thich Nhat Hanh. 'We believe that happiness is possible only in the future. That is why the practice 'I have arrived.' is very important. The realization that we are already here, can give us peace and joy.'

Aw, yuck. Why can't we have nice things anymore?

Just another photo of Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park, Canada. #NaturalBeauty
A photo of a mountain lake. The water is clear and calm. There is a reflection of a rocky mountain and trees in the background. The mountain has a light layer of snow and white clouds at the top. It's a beautiful, sunny October day.

We went for sushi our last night in Golden and the chopsticks came in this paper wrapper. 😄
Photo of a white paper chopstick wrapper. Written in black ink it says, "I wish everything was as easy as getting fat"

Oh you were so lucky. Today, there was probably 75-100 cars parked along the parking lot/road when we left and a steady stream of tour vans from Banff.

The Trans Canada Highway has become a freeway through mind-blowing, gorgeous, natural beauty. I understand people need to get places but it makes me sad.

I feel fortunate that I have a guy that likes to take the slow way and make all the stops so we can drink in the soul nourishing beauty.

It has been awhile since we have spent any time in the parks and it astonishes me how folks just zoom from spot to spot, taking quick photos. It was a gorgeous fall day and most people didn't slow down to enjoy it.

Today was a trip to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. An easy 5 km walk around the lake with my guy. And yes, the lake really is that colour. It is so beautiful despite the crowds of people. Luckily for us, most folks stay near the lodge for quick selfies and don't do the hike.
Old hippie guy standing on a rocky, grassy shore of a emerald green mountain lake. In the background is a rocky mountain with snow and cloud at the top. It's a sunny, blue sky day.

Walking along the Kicking Horse River with my guy, reminding me there is still beauty in the world.
Old hippie guy walking beside a turquoise mountain river. Trees with golden fall foliage on both banks. A green covered pedestrian bridge spans the river. Mountains and cloudy blue sky are in the background.

Kicking Horse River flowing through Golden BC just before it meets the mighty Columbia River. What a gorgeous place. Life is still beautiful.
View of a turquoise river. There are golden trees and evergreens on the banks. In the background are mountains peaking through clouds.

So many of us are going through it all with aging parents. Mine are both 84 and are declining. It can be a lot sometimes. I hope you have support and can do some fun, self care things. 💜

Oh wow. That is so hard. You and your mom are going through enough stress already without having to deal with mix ups like this. My heart goes out to you and I hope the rest of her move goes smoothly.

Brains are weird but maybe her messaged seeped into mine, little things like composting make a difference.

I watched the Jane Goodall Netflix doc/interview last night and then had a dream that she came to our house for dinner. She was helping to clear the dishes after and was very pleased to see our compost bucket as my husband excitedly explained our composting system to her.

It's more like I feel like such a loser. Especially at 3 am, when my brain rehashes every mistake I've made in my life. Thankfully, it doesn't happen as often as it used to, but when it does, I suffer big time the next day.

Also, here is a thought: I wonder how much "not feeling like an adult" is correlated with impostor syndrome.

It is frustrating and sad. I agree. Is it part of being human that we tear each other apart? Not everybody of course. Maybe the anger is rooted in fear? Heck if I know.
