My policy on sharing campaigns:

I will automatically consider gfm campaigns to be legitimate. @mommunism.bsky.social has touched on this before, and I've seen it firsthand with a friend who is trying to help his fiance escape Russia: gfm heavily vets all campaigns. They often err on the side of

I definitely am seconding the recommendation of Canaan brand and Handmade Palestine (which is run by a delightful couple in Ramallah), but would also like to recommend the Al-Ard brand (run by the Anabtawi family) for their oils and foods. You can shop at alardproducts.com or look in your local

Yeah, 6 months is around when they really start blossoming ime. So fun to watch them go from "little creature whose only focus is survival and growing" to "small person discovering that they have opinions"

This is really silly but I very slightly judge people who muffle their sneezes. I know that wasn't satisfying. Sneeze like you mean it, coward.

I'm getting set to follow today's hearing in State of Oregon v. Trump. I'm also begging the Northern District of Illinois to start making their hearings available for those covering the case remotely!

Can't believe I have to say this, but it is not slut-shaming to expect a journalist to not sleep with someone they're actively interviewing and profiling. It's basically "journalistic ethics 101."

I unfortunately am also not close to that lmao

It's so good, I've been listening to it pretty much daily since August. There's a few versions though, make sure you don't start with the "next generation" version. The original has Richard Burton, David Essex, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues), and my favorite performer on it, Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy

There is absolutely a spectrum between "benign double-jointedness" and "pathologically hypermobile" so if you don't have excessive joint pain, then it's just a fun party trick to freak out your friends 😂 people REALLY hate the thumb trick

Based on the headline you'd almost expect that he was (accurately) pointing out how non-threatening the protests are, but no.

Also, facial expressions actually tend to be pretty cultural! Studies repeatedly find that they're not nearly as universal as people believe.

Facial expressions common to all humans! 🙃
PainChek is one of these behavioral models, and it acts like a camera‑based thermometer, but for pain: A care worker opens the app and holds a phone 30 centimeters from a person’s face. For three seconds, a neural network looks for nine particular microscopic movements—upper‑lip raise, brow pinch, cheek tension, and so on—that research has linked most strongly to pain. Then the screen flashes a score of 0 to 42. “There’s a catalogue of ‘action‑unit codes’—facial expressions common to all humans. Nine of those are associated with pain,” explains Kreshnik Hoti, a senior research scientist with PainChek and a co-inventor of the device. This system is built directly on the foundation of FACS. After the scan, the app walks the user through a yes‑or‑no checklist of other signs, like groaning, “guarding,” and sleep disruption, and stores the result on a cloud dashboard that can show trends.

Why are rodent cells so hardy? You can consistently immortalize mice cells by putting them through crisis. You could throw a CHO flask at the wall and it as long as it doesn't break they won't give a shit.
Look at HEK 293 cells funny? They're fucking dead.

NHANES is an invaluable tool that many researchers including myself use to report on conditions in the general population.

Like the fact that ~40% of 12-21yo females are iron deficient.

But they’re destroying it all.

This is why ridicule is an effective form of protest. Convening an Emergency Naked Bike Ride is ridiculous in the first place; having it give Mike Johnson such vapors that he calls it “the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet” is so over the top it’s ridiculous. Just perfection

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.
