At Cottontail Acres: I followed a Cooper's hawk around the yard for * checks EXIF data * almost 40 minutes early this morning. It was so focused on finding something to eat that it didn't seem to mind me getting quite close at times.

At Cottontail Acres: The sky was black with rain clouds when I got up but the sunrise had broken through. Then it started raining, so I went looking for a bird to silhouette against the rainbow. Et voila!

Alamy just licensed one of my dairy farm photos for use in an "educational book" (they typically provide few details). So that's nice. New Scientist magazine also licensed this same shot a few months ago for an article on bird flu.

At Cottontail Acres: we've had quail on the property every day since April 29 - more than five months! They arrive in the morning, hang out all day, then wander off somewhere around sunset. This has never happened in previous years.

At Cottontail Acres: this white-tailed antelope ground squirrel appeared in the yard earlier this week. We've had a couple over the years that have stayed for a few weeks but not this one; we haven't seen him since.

Above Cottontail Acres: about 50 turkey vultures flew in from the east at sunset last night and roosted in the neighborhood. At sunrise this morning they circled for about 15 minutes before heading back east.
