Book Rec thread. I wanna post some of my 5 stars on here too so I really like remember them. First up Where Wolves Don't Die by Anton Treuer. A native kid gets in a fight with a kid at school and the next day the other kid's house catches fire.
His dad sends him to the Rez to stay with grandparents.
I mean I guess its not my business if they wanna waste their money. Hmph.
Apparently students struggle with keywords/searching so we should outsource those tasks to AI. Wait so they just never learn how to do it? Don't we want them to gain cognitive skills in college not just learn more about a tool they could figure out at home for way less than a full degree?
Also language is so fascinating. Like some places moved away from saying operating theater when it stopped being a public performance/entertainment, but others were like nah we will keep that terminology thanks.
Need to search "American theater" AND sustainab* instead of any other organization of those ideas. I love those puzzles.
While I may bitch about modality, this is my favorite part of my job. Have AI tell non affiliates they cant use our subscriptions. That sucks. Figuring out language conundrums is fun. Like the fact that a lot of places use operating theater so searching for sustainability in theater houses you
Me: bitches about an email form people are using for topic narrowing instead of making consults where I can talk to them live.
Colleague: have them use ai for narrowing and keyword searching instead of doing it with them?
Me: JK the form is great! Keep the form! All hail the form!!
Man at this point if someone is stealing ANYTHING from a big chain store I am not saying a thing.
Remember, as SNAP is about to end, the standing rule remains firm:

If you see someone stealing diapers or formula no you didn't.
Or you know both if its super popular lol.
Nah I'm very responsible with my purchases. I just had to email someone if i thought we should get e versions before and I hate bugging people. So this will just get me to pick audiobooks over physical slightly more often.
Getting training on the backend of Overdrive today. Now I might be able to select audiobooks and ebooks for our library as well as physical.
a cartoon of grinch with a very angry look on his face
Alt: a cartoon of grinch with a growing smile that looks sinister.

Can't tell if its just a general mood swing, my swap to red bull or starting TMS, but something has me more productive the last few days. Thank goodness, I was feeling very much like a fraud at work there for a bit. But now im like yes I can write lib guides and fix training modules.
Took my cpap mask and bite guard off in the night for unknown reasons and now I am exhausted. Tried listening to fun music and busting out my SAD light, but neither is having much impact.
Hmm i havent actually broken it down, but I think its a bit of a mix on facial features. I got grandma's body shape/height though except she had bigger boobs due to the 6 kids(at least based on some of her dresses from the 70s/80s and how they fit in my late teens/early 20s)
Do you look more like your mom or your dad? Or a grandparent? Or another relative?
Lolol for patrons maybe, but not libraries...
Oh called back and its a place trying to buy properties. Her name was also not on that so the mystery continues...
Someone just called asking for my mom. A. Shes been dead for 17 years, B. She never had this phone number or had her name on the phone account at all. It was my stepdads # first and we swapped like ten years ago. Calling for him makes sense, but not her.
Audiobooks for the most part. Sometimes my roommate puts on YouTube cooking vids. I like the Sorted guys and sometimes Mythical Kitchen although it is high energy, goofy, and they do not stop talking. If you actually want calmness and more home cooking advice Glen and Friends is better lol
I was surprised to see this book at my local indie on Monday (they mostly carry contemporary romance) so I scooped it up real quick. I will not make the mistake of starting it on a work night lol.
My beautiful new handmade fruit bowl and a dumb t-shirt to replace the one I recently stained with bleach in my casual wear rotation.
I've been so productive today! Did a bunch of actual research help and fixed up parts of our Canvas training. Woo!! More canvas and some Endnote libguide work in the afternoon after lunch and a chat shift!
I also did a paid critical info literacy 4 week class through ALA I believe and it was alright. That was years ago though. I have not been keeping up well with continuing ed recently tbh.
For information literacy the Ohio state university library info lit department does some great webinars and discussions that are free. I hate their football team, but their librarians are awesome!
Oh and I should note i watched season 1 shortly after it came out so like 2021. Two fucking years later and an entire book was just gone from my memory. Like I get romance novels since they are all so similar they kinda start blending. But an epic fantasy? I didnt even remember the sedai had colors.
