tbh I do think most people are probably closer to this more chill side of the argument, it's just the magic of socmed throwing oil into fire and people grossly interpreting hostility when there's none.
at least not to the degree they pretend there is

overall my stance on this is people do have preferences and tagging makes it easier for everyone
but also it's nbd if it's not tagged, better no tag than mistag imo

however loudly insisting on your very right to not tag it, especially when in non western fandom, is kinda weird and honestly rude

I mean there's stuff to criticise about eastern fandom
mostly how I think switch shippers getting unnecessarily ostracized at times (thinking of all the incidents of them getting harassed on fixed dynamic zines)
and some other stuff I can't think of rn

but t/b being basic etiquette isn't it lol

ig its less about not tagging t/b for me and more about a lot of westerners vehemently defending their right to be "not courteous" because they don't owe internet strangers shit

and in a sense that's true but also not really how a community ought to work tbh

like i go on reddit to check out HSR builds and instead see r/ao3 get into t/b tagging discourse again
and the usually very pro "tag your shit" sub suddenly is all arms up about their very right to not tag t/b feat. condescending (if not outright racist lol) attitudes towards eastern fandom

it's also partially because i find a lot of t/b discourse arguments by westerners exhausting, since fandom got somehow associated with activism, having t/b preferences now dictates your moral values or whatever
and there's this weird superiority complex of not having those "rigid cringe rules"

and overall I think I'm more on the eastern fandom's side, because even if you view it not as basic fandom etiquette but courtesy, you're still not being courteous yknow

like on one hand, yeah it's nbd but on the other if it's nbd then it's nbd to tag either, especially in non western spaces

generally speaking idm not having t/b tagged, having mostly navigated EN fandom
but since fandom spaces on ie. twt are getting more globalised, with westerners even crosstagging into other languages, it's important to follow eastern fandom etiquette imo, especially if the source is too

and with basic fandom etiquette I mean it's seen as incredibly rude to not tag your t/b or double tag AB BA instead of tagging ABA
(especially if the ship is the less popular one on ao3 re not tagging)

versus western fandom usually sticking to only one ship name with no regards of t/b or the likes

t/b tagging discourse is my one of favourites because it's where western and eastern fandom seemingly split the most
it's a fascinating culture clash

imo it's probably because western fandom sees t/b tagging as courtesy and eastern as basic fandom etiquette 🧵
