Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, has excited young people like no candidate since Obama. So why are 80-year-olds like Bill and Hillary Clinton supporting Andrew Cuomo? See my new substack, "Democrats: Evolve or Die," and please consider subscribing.
Some computer glitch is preventing me from sharing my substack column directly with you today, but I think you may find it worth your time. The title is: "No, You Don't Understand How Bad This Is." And thanks for reading me.
he majority of Michigan third and fourth graders can't read as well as they should, which indicates their futures are in grave danger. But there are strong signs their schools are not to blame. See my new Substack today, and thanks for reading me.

We forget our history at our peril, which is why so many of us elected an ignorant destructive monster last year. But today is also the anniversary of the closest brush we've had with nuclear war, something we ought not to forget, especially now.

We have to fight for our nation, but also our states, and in Michigan there were canvassers with clipboards trying to get various proposals on next year's ballot. Today's substack is a guide to which are good -- and which would be very bad.

I hope as many of you as possible are protesting today, and fighting fascism every day. But there are other things we need to think about, and one of the biggest is education. See my Substack today for insight as to the real reason Johnny can't read.

By the way, I am told all sorts of transportation sites are offering rides to the polls on Election Day, “Wednesday Nov. 5.”

Elections are always on Tuesdays, in this case, Nov. 4. If this is a deliberate attempt at sabotage, I don’t know. But I do know we must all be vigilant and informed.
t seems like at least once a week, Donald Trump feels he has to do something to piss on the rule of law. Today, he commuted the sentence of serial liar George Santos, who was expelled from Congress. Santos is contemptible, but Trump is the most un-American creature in history.
Here's what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer thinks is a good idea: Recruit a soon-to-be 79-year-old term limited governor to run for the all-important US Senate seat in Maine. See my Substack today.

Every sane and decent person wants to limit money in politics, and the wonderful group Voters Not Politicians is trying to get a proposal on the ballot to do so. But is it constitutional? See my new substack today, and I'd be honored if you subscribed.

Dictators like building grandiose and generally really ugly buildings and monuments to themselves. So you probably won't be greatly surprised that the marmalade man wants to do the same.

I originally thought giving Donald Trump a Nobel Peace Prize was one more bad joke in our current era of attempted national suicide. Then I learned that some allegedly sane people take this seriously. Grip your armrests, and see my Substack today.

Detroit's about to elect a new mayor, and Mike Duggan, the man who supposedly "fixed" Detroit, is running for governor as an independent instead. But what shape is the Motor City really in? See my new substack column today, and thanks for reading me!
