One of the only political choices that is left to you in this rat hole of a country is to not be as stupid as they all think you are
leonardpierce.bsky.social
I'm the co-chair (and former chair) of CDSA's Political Education section, and I think we do pretty important and effective work. Our Socialist Night School is my favorite thing to do and I'm thrilled to start our 14th semester! Come out, see me, meet me, talk about socialism with me! Readings here:

Hey! Chicago! Socialist-curious? Wondering how we got to this terrible moment and what to do about it? Just want to hang out with cool people like me?

The new semester of @chicagodsa.bsky.social's Socialist Night School is starting, with the first session TOMORROW EVENING!
The new semester of Socialist Night School, presented bt the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, starts tomorrow night, Monday, October 13th, from 6:30 to 8:30PM at the Wicker Park Lutheran Church at 1500 North Hoyne Avenue. Our topic will be "Why the Working Class?" What is Socialist Night School?

Socialist Night School is a recurring series of facilitated political discussions (not lectures) around a specific topic, set of readings, and set of discussion questions.

We typically run SNS in "semesters" that consist of a series of three to five different sessions, with each session usually running about two hours.

Socialist Night School is a great event for new DSA members, non-members, and long-time members alike. Even if you're not able to complete the readings, we encourage you to attend and join the discussion. READINGS FOR THIS SESSION:

"Why the Working Class?": pamphlet by Chicago DSA's Political Education committee (3 pages)

"Bourgeois and Proletarians": from THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels (12 pages)

Excerpt: from "From Black Lives Matter to Black Liberation" by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor (7 pages) CHICAGO DSA SOCIALIST NIGHT SCHOOL FALL 2025 SESSION SCHEDULE:

That should be TABLOID photos, not tennis, although that would probably be amazing as well especially from Diane Keaton
leonardpierce.bsky.social
With everyone remembering the great Diane Keaton, a note that she wrote a number of books, my favorite of which is LOCAL NEWS, a collection of incredible, noir-esque photos from her parents' collection of tennis photos from the L.A. Examiner:

Hi this is my real face and name and I am not scared of shit but that dude is 100% a weird creep and he was a complete asshole to me and a bunch of other people in this thread because he has a weird anticommunist hardon

It should be pretty obvious why we are told that no one likes to live under socialism, that everyone there wants to move here, that there is no freedom or democracy, that they are ruled solely through state terror, and that they all exist under self-imposed economic failure. Folks, you gotta wise up
leonardpierce.bsky.social
We constantly hear these states have no democracy (rather than democratic practice that is not the same as ours), that none exist with the consent of the governed (an obvious lie as well as an insult to the power of the people), and that power at a granular level is somehow sustained by one person.
leonardpierce.bsky.social
Just another note on this: It is astonishing how complete is the delusion in capitalist countries - ESPECIALLY the United States - that every communist or socialist state is maintained solely through dictatorial power of a single individual or small group and persists only through oppressive force.

It's Socialist Sunday at IMMORTAL SCIENCE, and that dumbass NYT hed about how Chinese people should "protest" the country's green energy program inspired me to write about how anticommunism makes us all deeply stupid. Check, check, check, check it:
