Update: I am now a freelancer! I left Reuters so that I could pursue new paths and projects and I will continue to freelance for them in the future. I am a professional photographer/videographer, I have a drone license, recent HET certs and I am also getting into the safety instructor space.

Intro: I'm a photojournalist with a background in newspapers before joining Reuters. I've covered small feature stories, national and international protest movements, climate change, breaking news, conflict and so many other things in between. I'll be posting my work here and on IG. #photojournalism

Not fake. Case and point why photographers and outlets need to be credited. (AP Photo/Erin Hooley)

I’m a photojournalist, I switched to ballistic covering 2020.

I totally appreciate the concern and it’s helpful to come from that perspective but to also think critically and learn when it is and is not appropriate. Thank you for your question.

I’ve seen this a few times & this is why context w content & media literacy matters. This person is a professional photojournalist who knowingly puts his name next to his photos every time he covers something. I’m asking people to respect that. & crediting professional journalism is helpful context.
ptuller.bsky.social
Will highlighting and crediting the photographer also make him a target???
leahmillis.bsky.social
I understand your concern but this is a professional photojournalist who puts his name next to his photos every day. We are aware of the risks when we do this. Respect his decision and his hard work is all I’m asking.

One can tell how I’m feeling about a thing by how many TQs you can see on me.

You can first try reverse image search. This photo in particular was leading a number of news stories because it went out on the wire, as well. Use keywords from a city, any info you can glean from the image.

They are a staffer or freelancer for a news outlet. We all take this job on knowing our names are next to the images. You’re more damned if you don’t right now, re: misinfo and respecting those working on the ground.

While we are on the subject of journalist safety in the field: follow along as I build up this space to share tips and eventually provide training and resources to journalists who would like to or expect to work in hostile environments.

They are my emotional support tourniquets.

But you also want more than one of them for thigh wounds. And/or if you’re at a mass casualty event.

"Extra" tourniquet? May you never need more than one! 🙏🏼
leahmillis.bsky.social
Always good to pray and have at least two tourniquets on you! Those thigh wounds sometimes need two on one.

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.

Who benefits most from the narrative that WaPo is dead or that overnight CBS is dead? I will yell til the cows come home for critical thinking but the internet is just not made for it.
