A toolkit we published this spring alongside @greaterohio.org offers a roadmap for identifying suitable equitable development programming that is driven by an evaluation of a community’s unique assets. By Casey Terry and Erica Spaid Patras: go.lincolninst.edu/l/153411/202...
Graphic excerpted from the Lincoln Institute publication Moving Beyond Conventional Economic Development Practice. The image presents three illustrated green icons with accompanying text explaining the concepts looking in, leveraging, and locking. The first icon, a city skyline within a magnifying glass, represents looking in—a process where city leaders assess existing neighborhood and regional assets to uncover opportunities for entrepreneurship and inclusive economic development. The second icon, a network of connected gears, represents leveraging—activating stakeholder relationships to make better use of identified assets and create a “spiraling up” effect that fosters additional development. The third icon, a circular diagram of arrows surrounding an interconnected grid, represents locking—nurturing communities so assets recirculate locally, generating cycles of economic activity and community well-being that benefit all residents.
