Again, not @-ing or vaguing anyone specific, this is a blanket statement re: how it feels to be creative as a whole lately- and I have responsibility to take for said environment as well on my end and need to do better myself.

In the two weeks my sister has had Eva, she has:

- Bullied the old kitties away from their cat castle and taken it over

- Thumped at my sister and her husband for offenses such as: the blanket not being in the right spot, laughing, snuggling without her, her food in the bowl being too high/low>

pet tax for the pissing and moaning this afternoon.

please meet my new niece, Miss Eva (named after the Wall-E character), and ofc the two bastard assistant supervisors making sure I (do not) get shit done on the clock: Strider (green eyed tabby mix) and Kija (Annoyed siamese mix)

a dark sable brown bunmy with lighter fur on the underside of her front paws relaxes in a comfortable loaf-sploot. Her ears are casually listening while she is at ease on a bed.

two cats sit on OP's lap to add additional difficulty to their workload. One is a brown tabby mix with big green eyes sitting closest to OP while being pet, the other is a siamese mix looking half-asleep and annoyed by the tabby being closer to OP.

I know I shouldn't be bothered by other people venting about feeling the way they do about the creative scene, but man, when it's so constant?

Even knowing you write with your heart and for the love of stories, that shit really gets to you over time.

As a writer, it's already a lonely and frustrating process even w/o the bullshit competition fandom)s + original writing scene makes it + constantly encourages.

Adding the above attitudes on top of it? Fuck, man, way to defeat the purpose of sharing art and writing in the first place.

In the end, yes, it's a me problem to fix. Be it muting, blocking, or further curating my space in w/e way I choose: something has to change because it's not helping me overcome the anxiety of Doing It Wrong in any sense.

I know this, I am working on this, and I am still going to talk about it.

This is a large chunk of why I've been mostly reposting others' works, not posting/sharing my stuff.

All of the 'anyone writing x y z is boring', 'why would anyone want to read x character)s, genres, etc', and "only me and my friends are genuine anymore in art, etc" got to me.

It also helps if you look at a place's site and they openly invite/ask you to come in and do just that. 😅 Takes some of the (self-imposed) pressure and anxiety away too!

I feel you on this one, I've started making a pact with myself after dr's appts that I get to go to the tea shop down the road from it as a reward since I'll be in the area. I bring my watercolor set or a book and have a pot.

It's not the same as pre-2020, but it does help even for an hour!

If you see someone and you find yourself going "oh yeah, I did that/was there" and have the capacity for it? Share a tip, resource, and bit of encouragement for them to keep at it.

That encouragement will keep them going for a little while and shows someone has faith in their growth.

Writers and artists (@ing myself on this one): please stop being afraid of "doing it wrong".

It's better to have a "skill level not there yet, fuck" moment than to literally never try anything outside of your safe/comfort zone.

People of all ages and life stages are in a wide range of exploring of creative play, research, etc. Being a pretentious ass and gatekeeping the very act of creating, figuring shit out, and learning as time goes on will never get you more of what you want to see, read, etc.
