Howdy! I'm Siobhan! I'm a writer and editor in the US's Southwest. I write sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and I've been known to do screenplays and articles on film. I love movies, tabletop and video games, and hollering. Follow me for Battletech shitposts, miniatures painting, and film/writing thoughts.

Gonna start catching up on my mech posting, because I've actually been painting a lot... First up, I've got a Sagittaire and a Mongoose of the Southern Cross Mercenary Company's first company. I really love how the Sagittaire came out!
#battletech #mechwarrior #wargames #mecha
A blue and gunmetal Sagittaire BattleMech with dark red highlights, white unit markings, and a gold canopy. It's massive, wedge-shaped body bristles with energy weapons. The same Sagittaire shot from a different angle. You can see more of the top, and the inverted cross and four stars of the company standard. A small and nimble Mongoose BattleMech in the same blue and red. It stares down the barrel of the camera, ready to run across a field of black stone and jagged turquoise chunks. Ah, dang. The Mongoose is spooked. It has turned away and is running.

Resurrexis was almost definitely a macguffin in a Galaxy of Fear book.

Robocop is a movie about a guy who gets killed on the job and they still made him go back to work

Do I want to replace a living, breathing performer who was cast specifically for a role with a wooden, warping simulacrum of a woman who already died exploited in a perverse act that is cruel to everyone involved and consumes enough power and water to keep a small town going? I wouldn't, actually.

Any time. I also really enjoyed the reissue of Kamikaze L'amour earlier this year. Keep writing them, and I'll keep reading them!

Seems like a lot of words to use instead of "Whites."

And what's next? Insomnia hit hard last night so I went through the stack and picked out another Kadrey: The Grand Dark. I love a dark, moody, fantastical city, so I have high hopes for this one!

Okay, confession time: I took a break in my last read because I bought @richardkadrey.bsky.social's newest, The Flesh King, and it was a blast. Gross and fun and surprisingly heartfelt. It's great to visit Ford, Neuland, and Tilda again after The Pale House Devil and see how they're doing.

The book The Flesh King, by Richard Kadrey on display on a shelf. A red-eyed, sunken figure dominates the cover. He is split in half, connected only by threads of flesh and skin. Silhouettes of our three protagonists fall through the gap like they're in a James Bond credits sequence.

Up next I read Wake Up and Open Your Eyes by @claymcleod.bsky.social. This one is also strong and eerie, with plenty of gore and body horror, and it gets points from me for recognizing how widespread right-wing radicalization is and how many routes lead to the same horrifying indoctrination...
The cover of Wake Up and Open Your Eyes, by Clay McLeod Chapman. A black and white photo of a "classic" American family at the dinner table, cut out and put in front of a red background. The family's faces are removed--except for one child--and have been replaced with a blur of television static.

Oof. Fallen behind on updates here. I finished Exiles (no "The" as I added in my last post) and very thoroughly enjoyed it! Creepy, isolated, mostly psychological horror on Mars with some VERY emotional robots. Going to have to check out some more @andrewpyper.bsky.social soon.

The cover of Exiles by Mason Coile (Andrew Pyper). A lone, environment-suited figure stands in silhouette in a rusty-dark Martian wind storm.

Women LOVE IT when you replace basic questions and statements with demands.

Well Kiera, the problem with that is that you want me to live and let live with someone who regularly states that her sole wish is to see me and everyone like me dead or in prison. And the fact that you "didn't know" is not a reason for us to shut up and let you take her money in peace. So fuck off.

Steampunk Horror never really took off, I guess.

Truly. It near to wrecked me this spring, seeing it through the added lens of being out.

Looks great! As I've grown my hair out over the last year and a half, I've discovered I have the same thing. Would love to know how you've been cultivating it.

The Rotary Autocannon may be in the book, but I'll be damned if I can find jamming rules. I can only conclude that it's a myth made up to scare baby mech warriors.

Jesus shit-jumping Christ. Do we want oligarchs focusing intense light on specific locations like kids burning anthills with magnifying glasses? Because this is how we get oligarchs focusing intense light on specific locations like kids burning anthills with magnifying glasses.

Hell yeah! I've been wishing for years that we could explore the wider Star Wars galaxy in different ways. This is exciting!
