Don't be afraid to use lube, squash can be very drying to skin. If you use olive oil you can even eat it afterwards. Reduce reuse recycle! (Fin)

Don't carve the pumpkin or scrape out the insides unless the goo in the center will be a sensory issue for you, or you're making content and plan on filming internal shots. If that's the case then carving pumpkins with their large open centers actually become a great choice! (9/10)

Carve a hole that is too small, and use a drill to make micro adjustments and smooth out sharp edges. Go in circles rubbing the drill bit around the sides of the hole until it's a comfortable size (8/10)

You can soften it by baking it, but use the lowest setting on the oven and be cautious to avoid burns. (7/10)

When making your selection choose one that feels heavy for its size. Denser pumpkins have less water and air. Check for mold around the stem or soft spots, but over-ripeness isn't necessarily a bad thing, I prefer a softer pumpkin (6/10)

My favorite is Winter Luxury, which may be a surprise given its rough exterior, but inside it has exquisitely smooth creamy flesh, and a center that is much less gooey than most. Don't bother with ornamental pumpkins they're much too firm (5/10)

While jack-o'-lanterns are stringy and mostly water and air, pie pumpkins have thick smooth flesh that can feel amazing. There's a good deal of variation between different heirloom varieties too if you're brave enough to source from the farmers market (4/10)

Mostly what I see people use are carving or jack-o'-lantern pumpkins, but these actually aren't the best. I suggest trying a pie pumpkin. Sugar pumpkins work great and are easy to find. Generally these are sold simply as "pie pumpkin" and are almost as cheap as carving pumpkins (3/10)
