9 months gone. 39 more till the orange fartbag is history.

The only time Ive heard it and it worked was when it was a woman in one chapter then a man. So almost two stories in one. Generally I prefer them to use a talented narrator who can do all the voices.

I hope you are right.

They already do this. All my kids did this at junior school.

Nothing, but nothing, shouts "lazy PR takes advantage of lazy journalist" like demanding something be taught in schools.

Bonus lazy-points to this example for ignoring the fact that it's already in the KS1 national curriculum.
karenroberts.bsky.social
I think that's the only time it works.

And one way it doesn't respect the audibook as a medium is that for this stuff to work, the actors do really have to be in studio *together*, not to have Nighy as footnote and whichever big name actor is doing the book reading be visibly at odds together, edited poorly together. Hate, hate, HATE.

Even before 'okay, but why would the footnotes have a different voice? They are written in the same tone as the main text' I can only hope a life of misery for whoever is responsible for the fact that Clifford's script, audibly, doesn't include where she needs to pause for footnotes!

This stuff fundamentally doesn't respect that the audiobook is part of a literary and theatrical tradition that is thousands of years old. It's not a venue for a producer who wishes they were making radio plays to butcher a text with badly formatted scripts and actors who weren't in studio together.
stephenkb.bsky.social
Crazy idea, but for the cost of getting Bill Nighy to read the footnotes, could surely have taken the time to properly format Sian Clifford's script so there aren't moments where you can essentially *hear* the fact there was a pagebreak?

He always gets narky when he gets asks questions that he doesnt like. It's his "tell".

Say what you like about Farage, but he always gives an excellent quote.

We found out they’ve been courting Reform since at least 2024, in an attempt to build their UK influence, and have brokered a string of meetings and briefings with Farage.

Farage is taking money from these guys! 👇

The ADF isn’t just any Christian anti-abortion group — they helped overturn Roe v Wade in the US and are incredibly well-connected in the White House. Now they’ve set their sights on Britain.
karenroberts.bsky.social
So not only does Farage hang about with people that take bribes from Russia but also he takes money from anti-abortionists who want to get a toehold in the UK!!!

If you wondered why Nigel Farage turned up in US Congress in September speaking about "freedom of speech", this story has the answer

His appearance was orchestrated by a powerful American anti-abortion group that is trying to increase its influence in the UK by influencing the free speech debate

Not to mention harsh laws on behavior such as same sex relationships, having a child out of marriage, public displays of affection, public intoxication and built in misogyny with dress codes for women ffs. Yeah what's not to like.
Who the f*** wants to raise their kids in such a intolerant place?

current Reform Party rhetoric [from Farage, at least] not exactly expected, saying that "Protect and Retreat" is woke. There must be a Maginot Line, no doubt as effective

large parts are informally residential throughout the storm surge season, a degree of urgent mobilisation is required. The unspoken truth is neither the state nor the local elected representatives have a strategy in place, although the latter are right to be alarmed and already rehearsing scapegoats

Everyone knows at least one person (normally, but not exclusively, a guy) whose gone properly mental due to net rabbit holes.

We see public figures regularly go mad and destroy themselves.

And we have, at a policy level, just decided to put our fingers in our ears and go nahnahnah

Last night I heard of another friend of a friend who has been lost to a rabbit hole of online propaganda. We need to start treating this as a serious public health concern.

Close up of the central panel in a late 4th century AD floor, #Roman townhouse at Colliton Park #Dorchester

The design, a stylised flower surrounded by guilloche, is simple but highly effective 😍

Excavated 1937-8, it's today protected by Dorset council and Dorset Museum
