Happy birthday, George. May your memory be a blessing.

We join together to fight for a future where Black people can be free from violence, to live long abundant lives. From the US to Palestine, we must abolish racist police forces that murder with impunity and brutally repress our protests against their violence.

Black people deserve to be safe, they deserve to be protected. From Minneapolis to Palestine, our combined struggle against white supremacist state violence only grows stronger.

American policing is rooted in enslavement and settler colonialism, and has always been in the business of surveilling and shutting down justice movements.

The militarization of US police forces is rooted in America’s war-making all over the world, which includes funding and support for Israel’s occupation and genocide.

The US government’s investment in colonialism, militarism, and occupation abroad always circles back to US streets.

As we take to the streets for our Palestinian friends and comrades and for everyone terrorized by ICE and fascist US police, we recognize the origin of militarized police brutality should come as no surprise.

The Minneapolis resistance sparked worldwide protests for the murders and incarceration of so many Black people at the hands of police, leading to nationwide calls to defund the police.

In response, the people of Minneapolis burned the third precinct, and the community continues to occupy an autonomous protest zone where he was murdered.

His horrific murder by Minneapolis police enraged millions of people around the world, who flooded the streets to demand justice — not just for George, but for every Black person brutalized by a system built on white supremacist violence.

George was a beloved father, son, brother, and a loving friend to many in his community.

Today would have been George Floyd’s 52nd birthday. He should be here celebrating with his loved ones.

If you don’t see the link between ICE and the IDF, you haven’t been paying attention. We are being asked to accept a world where whole communities are made disposable and marked for disappearance. If we accept that for anyone, no one is safe anywhere.

Palestinians have welcomed a ceasefire in the past, and been devastated when Israel quickly violated it.

This ceasefire must be permanent – and it must be the first step to real accountability, justice, and freedom.

When we say landback for Palestine, it is a call for the freedom of all people, from the river to the sea, and across the planet.

Land theft, genocide and ethnic cleansing can never be justified. The right of return is not only a Palestinian cause, it is an international demand for landback that resonates globally.

says, “What we’re reclaiming when we say ‘land back’ is our power. Land back involves an actual shift in the power structure not of just the United States, but the world.”

Of course, there are major distinctions between the colonization of Turtle Island and that of Palestine. It’s hard to even talk about the first as a monolith, since the various peoples of the “Americas” endured colonization in different ways and at different points in time.

For Palestinians, landback takes the form of the right of return, a key principle in international law that guarantees all people’s right of voluntary return to their place of origin.

We see landback movements across Turtle Island in the Six Grandfathers mountains in Black Hills of South Dakota (also known as Mount Rushmore,) in the Northern Sierra Mountains, home to the Maidu people, and in the sacred mountain of Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

Indigenous People are distinct populations relative to the dominant colonial culture of their country. They usually have their own language, cultures, and traditions influenced by living relationships with their ancestral homelands—and are tied to their own land in a variety of ways.
