Tim Rohn (Politico): "[W]hatever direct connection between a migrant’s behavior and a decision to arrest them might once have existed, that connection is now broken. . . .there is no longer any distinction between 'applying for asylum' and 'entering illegally.'"

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of author, Nathan Chase. He was a man of deep faith, who in recent years served as Assistant Professor of Aquinas Institute of Theology (St. Louis, MO) and Co-editor of Pray Tell Blog. May perpetual light shine upon him. praytellblog.com/index.php/20...

Clarke: "Many actors in that new media realm are unrestrained by facts or traditions of journalistic ethics, trading in hyperbole, insinuation and thorough fabrications produced by bought-and-paid-for influencers, political operatives and assorted flim-flam artists."

The human family & today's Feast of the Holy Family: Do we allow baptismal virtues (Colossians 3) to soften our hearts, that we may protect the human dignity of every person in these callous times? | Text in graphic from my Baptism: Alive in Christ @litpress.bsky.social: litpress.org/Products/640...
I was fortunate to have a great convo with Terkel in the early 2000s when I was a page at the Chicago Historical Society's Research Center (and he was Distinguished Scholar in Residence). He threw down some wisdom but then promptly got me talking about my family - I can say I was a Studs interview!

For Christians this way of thinking & acting is unacceptable, since it sets certain political preferences above deep convictions of our faith: the inalienable dignity of each human person regardless of origin, race or religion & the supreme law of fraternal love (PopeFrancis. Fratelli Tutti, no. 39)
No one will ever openly deny that [migrants] are human beings, yet in practice, by our decisions and the way we treat them, we can show that we consider them less worthy, less important, less human. (Pope Francis, Fratelli tutti, no. 39)

Our own days, however, seem to be showing signs of a certain regression. Ancient conflicts thought long buried are breaking out anew, while instances of a myopic, extremist, resentful and aggressive nationalism are on the rise. (Pope Francis, Fratelli tutti, no. 11)
Happy Easter! One option for today's readings is Colossians 3:1-4. It reminds us that #Easter is not simply "turning the page" but helps us embrace the meaning of Christ's suffering and death in the light of his resurrection. I reflected on this passage in my book on baptism.
