Worked hard on this, and I hope it will be a useful resource for many.

Also critical to note that these vaccines do not prevent infection- study here shows that “by approx weeks 9–12 post vaccination, the VE point estimates were close to zero” for XBB booster vs infection (still good to get to reduce risk of hospitalization/death)

While complaining how impossible it would be to adopt only a partial - PARTIAL- version of the lifestyle we’re forced to live. I lost my career to COVID. I developed a severe untreatable (on like 7 meds) migraine disorder to covid. I’m homebound and can’t stand in the shower. I was 37.
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
not only doubles the burden we labor under but makes every day more dangerous. For those of you for whom reinfection is not as fraught, introducing covid safety measures would serve as a shield to help protect those of us who can’t afford more infections. Instead you’re throwing us to the wolves
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
You are essentially saying that masking/covid prevention is an unfair/difficult burden - so let us leave it to the sickest, most vulnerable and at risk among us to bear alone, making it therefore more difficult again. We don’t have a choice, we must engage w prevention. Your failure to do so ….(1/2)
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
If you’re a person who cares about not disabling and harming other human beings, including children, you must know that nearly half of COVID cases are asymptomatic, that Covid spreads before symptoms begin, and that you have a responsibility not to harm others. That is simply humanity.
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
The framing “it’s unreasonable to ask me to mask” reminds me of climate change discussions - “it’s unreasonable to ask for net zero” etc - bc ppl think of the politics as more “real” than the science. Sometimes things are hard or unfair but reality and science don’t care
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
That is what happened in my friend group. As culture changes and masking and testing are normalized (1) long COVID patients can be integrated into society instead of choosing between isolation & risking their lives (2) AWARENESS of the need for clean air and URGENCY for clean air is built
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
Culture change could look like 3 major things- masking indoors , dining and drinking OUTDOORS, and TESTING whenever you plan to unmask. Introduce those 3 things to your social circle and always insist on them. “That’s how we ensure no one is left behind in this new era”
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
You’re right! It’s rly difficult! It’s made SO much more difficult trying to move through the world without catching covid- something I absolutely can’t catch given that I’m still sick from my infection 2 years ago- by the denialism and lack of solidarity of the majority
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
Instead of recognizing “what a difficult reality we’re creating for anyone that’s been harmed by the virus- which could be me next- I better recognize the severity of this situation & participate in changing the culture NOW before it’s my turn”, ppl BLAME us for the situation being difficult
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
I’m sorry that THE SITUATION feels unreasonable. It’s fair to say that the situation is unmanageable, a situation that all the ppl who already have contracted long covid and who can’t afford more infections have been thrust into. That is something to take up with the govt - a reason to be furious
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
“Doing what you can to avoid spreading it to other people” is masking , until we have clean air - and in the meantime , you all need to be advocating for clean air, which none of you are showing the urgency around when you fail to mask.
40%+ of Covid cases are asymp and Covid disables people

I literally NEVER had migraines before covid and now I’m on daily Qulipta, Topomax, I take beta blockers (also for POTS), for abortives I have Ubrelvy, naratriptan and a prescription strength NSAID which I take TOGETHER, I also do Botox and I’m about to try injectable Emgality. Nothing is working

I doubt she makes a habit of diagnosing patients generally. She certainly didn’t say anything to me about my scan (all clear thankfully 😌). And she was a nice lady generally! It just felt like she seriously got anxiety from what I was telling her - that I had serious health problems following COVID
juliadoubleday.bsky.social
I genuinely think she only stepped SO far out of her lane- I wasn’t even there for the heart scan for anything relating to my migraines, it just came up chatting!- bc of this reflex ppl have to dismiss long covid no matter what. She just couldn’t resist being like ummm but MAYBE ITS NOT THAT.

"This is the narrative the left uses because it allows them to be 'sympathetic' to Long COVID patients while refusing to mask or take any sort of preventive action. This is the idea that Long COVID is real, it exists, but only a certain kind of person gets it, and it’s a small minority of people."
What interests me about the “the lion does not concern himself” meme is the cracks it puts in the central fiction of the lies being told about Long COVID since 2022. Since that time, we’ve had two main narratives about Long COVID. The first, usually spewed on the right but too often adopted by the left as well, is that Long COVID is not real. It’s made up, it’s something lazy people use to stay in bed and get out of work, and/or it’s hysteria and conversion disorder.

But the second, more often left-wing narrative, is the one which is really punctured here. This is the narrative the left uses because it allows them to be “sympathetic” to Long COVID patients while refusing to mask or take any sort of preventive action. This is the idea that Long COVID is real, it exists, but only a certain kind of person gets it, and it’s a small minority of people. There’s something special about them, it must be genetic or something, and it doesn’t really affect most people.
