Also the posts are more often than not will sharpen your cats nails and itd have a higher chance of getting caught in curtains and fabric and even you.

Cat scratches can and will draw blood, dont make it easier for them to draw out more XD;;;/

Every cat owner I see clip their cat's nails despite having scratching posts. Scratching posts are important but it's not just to keep their nails maintained and short. Manually clipping them is good since they might overgrow and cause problems that wont easily be remedied just with the post.
