Morning Scene from Nagano.

While on a work shoot, I decided to wake up extra early to check out the crisp morning scenes in Nagano. I don’t know if there is anything quite like a quiet morning in the Japanese countryside

Scenes from Otaru

A collection of shots from my stroll around Otaru. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stick around for the night view, but these moody scenes provided more than enough to capture.

Road to Fuji (2025)

One of the benefits of living where I do is that I can see Mount Fuji from home. I saw some clouds forming around Fuji near sunset and opted to run out and get this shot. She doesn’t always come out in summer, but when she does, it is truly remarkable.

Zen Red.

Even in the rain Kyoto offers so much in terms of photography. For me, a perfect moment of zen is when I push the shutter knowing I got a keeper. I believe there are many paths to reaching nirvana — I’m getting there one photo at a time.

I came across this scene while heading back to the train station, last week. I definitely need to spend more time in Tokyo during golden hour. When the light hits, goodness does it hit.

I got really fortunate with the timing on this shot. I’m not sure how frequently this yellow train goes by, but I’m glad it did.

How it started (2017) vs how it’s going. (2025).

I sometimes see photographers delete their older work from their feeds, but I opt to keep early work there. I love going back to see how much I’ve evolved over the years.

Skytree: Blue and White.

Another shot I finally checked off the bucket list. In a city populated as Tokyo, I’m always surprised to find locations that aren’t swarming with tourists or other photographers.

Parting the Veil.

I spent yesterday running around the Eastern side of Tokyo. I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on Tokyo Tower recently, so I thought it was only fair to show his younger brother some love.

I have some extra free time to myself this week, so I’ve been making the most of it. I finally checked off a photo in Tokyo that has been on my list for a long time. Hopefully the weather holds up over the weekend, so I can continue shortening the list.

Thank you! Sometimes it’s the unexpected photos that turn out the best!
We had a couple of weeks with good weather, so I made an effort to get out as often as possible. While at my local beach, I went to one of my favorite spots for minimalist shots and walked away with this one. It’s simple, but may be my favorite of 2025 so far

Tokyo in Motion.

Even after all these years, I still can’t get enough of Tokyo Tower. It truly is my urban Mount Fuji. As the city continues to develop old view points disappear, but new ones open up.

浜降祭

Still not out of images from this year’s festival. I have a few batches left. Do you want to keep seeing them, or should I post something else for a bit?

浜降祭x太陽

The sun came out to play during this year’s festival. I may have been a bit overzealous about capturing it, but I have no regrets.

Found this at the local Hard-Off for just ¥880. Feels like quite a steal.

Have you had any budget-friendly finds lately?

浜降祭(16x10)

A collection of images from this year’s festival that I felt just looked better in 16x10. Still a ton of images to share, so I hope you’re enjoying them!

Some early morning shots from this year’s Hamaori Festival.

I love how festivals can bring us all together. I got to chat with some locals and traveling photographers. I’m already looking forward to next year!

Showcase: the beauty of Hokuriku.

I had the opportunity to photograph this lesser-visited part of Japan back in 2021 and it remains one of my favourite photography trips to date.

What is your favourite photograph road trip?

Beautiful work. Looks like something from another planet.
Summer hits different in Nagano. With cool temperature and low humidity, it made me feel like I’d traveled back to Vancouver… without the financially crippling price tag.

One of these images was taken with an old full-manual lens. Can you tell which one?

I decided to visit my favourite city spot a few weeks ago. I got lucky with the sun as it set between the two buildings across the bay.

I was planning to drive up to this location, but as fate would have it the road was closed for construction. I had two choices, scramble to find a backup plan or hike the mountain in nearly 40C temperature with high humidity. I think you can guess which way I went.

Love the soft tones here! It looks very painterly.
My trip to Shizuoka fell through because of the weather, so on my way back home I stopped off at Odawara Castle. Not a horrible consolation prize, I suppose.

What do you think?
