Completely agree. They're part of Congress conducting its oversight of the Executive Branch. Pretty much of the Alphabet agencies are going to need to assert themselves via Article I as opposed to apart of the Exec. Branch.
Very curious for '26 and NC-11. That was a conservadem district way back when and could be worth a target.
I'm really curious *why* they don't want to do it. I know MO Rs liked Cleaver but if they were willing to do it, why not go after Mrvan? Is it just midwestern niceness?
I was all in on Platner and rolled my eyes at Mills getting in, but while Mills would be an annoying Senator, at least she's vetted.
If the Republican Party had any control over it's primaries (even pre Trump), they'd have well over 60 Senate seats right now. Insane own goals over the past decade plus.
Govs are generally pretty popular across the board so being underwater at all is noteworthy. Youngkin also has never had full legislative control. Voters love when nothing happens.
"Look, we all know President Trump likes to say things to rile up the left. They've been very violent, far more violent, by a lot, then the right. This is what the President does. He wants the Democrats to open up the Government so we get back to delivering for the American people."
If you assume the internal partisan pollster effect of ~5 points then the Gov race is around 10 points which is where most nonpartisan pollsters seem to have it. Just a rough estimate though.
American thermostatic public opinion is really annoying.
Fervently believe Ds should embrace a "Medicaid for All" approach that allows anyone to buy into their state Medicaid. Everyone gets universal basic coverage. Use ACA exchanges for supplemental coverage. Employers can offer coverage of the exchanges.
Soros is in his 90s, who will be the next RW boogeyman? Reid Hoffman?
The ACA debate is the political front for the Democrats real issue -- Congressional power of the purse. Unless there's a critical mass of Rs willing to go to bat for their branch, I don't see how we get out of this.
Per @politico.com , the lobbyists are basically treating Article I as dead.
I think he's aware of the relative limits of it and it's a button he can only push once so it's better to continually threaten it than actually commit to it.
It would be nice if this country became more invested in who the Speaker of the House was because that was where more of the power lay.
The leftists doomers get extremely tiresome but OTOH, there are almost no Nazis so you win some, you lose some.
Wdym roll over? When the House is back in session, as Johnson continually claims, she'll be seated. That could be weeks given the shutdown.
Not really what you're getting at. Johnson is relying on the same bullshit he's said for weeks. "The House isn't in session," we know the ulterior motive is the discharge petition. I thought the House would be in regular session a couple weeks ago. The shutdown is still going on.
Polling errors aren't consistent cycle to cycle.
He must've seen polling like right before this that said, "People think you think you're a king."
Things like the Kimmel saga, the Universities saying no to this "compact", their freaking out about these protests, and hell, even the Chamber of Commerce suing the admin shows they don't have the juice for it. Not saying it's not a concern, but the backlash would be severe.
At first I was surprised these universities are doing it one-by-one, but it's actually a bit more powerful that way (assuming it's coordinated). Each "no" is a story unto itself.
Have they checked the banana stand?
Seems like a door cracking open for a deal. Full restoration of budget cuts, no more recissions, and an agreement of some sorts on ACA subsidies.
