Visualising incentives (explicit and implicit), threats (negative incentives) -> behaviours -> outcomes in a causal loop diagram helps to shine a light. Then work out what interventions, nudges, to experiment with, to break out of a doom loop and into a hopefully virtuous loop.

Positive transformation should not be stop-start, staccato, it should be continuous.

And the pace of change continues to accelerate, such that it is not a case of Change and Business As Usual (BAU). It is a case of Change As Usual (CAU).

It is interesting to note that we run capital ‘T’ Transformation projects (using effectively the same word as ‘entropy’), with start dates and end dates to overcome the natural continuous entropy (transformation) in the other direction towards disorder!

Work needs to be done even to maintain the status quo, to maintain a level of entropy, never mind improve it. Even more energy needs to be put into reducing entropy.

Organisational entropy (disorder) increases over time (second law of thermodynamics), unless there is energy to maintain or reduce it. Bureaucracy, complexity, dependencies, impediments to outcomes, increase over time. Like weeds growing back or an unmaintained house decaying and returning to nature

From Productivity To Valuetivity.

Productivity: number of units of output, per unit of input. This is an antipattern in the Age of Digital & AI. We don't want more 'stuff'.
Valuetivity: the most value, in the shortest time, with the least effort.

Next time you’re in a meeting debating your top 10 priorities, pause for a moment.
Ask: What’s the one thing that really matters most right now? What is most valuable? What do we need to learn most?

Be clear on the priority (singular).

Because everything became important, there was more division of labour, more specialisation, more cogs in the machine, more work passing between role-based silos, more (disconnected) priorities.

But, if everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.

'Priority' entered the English language in the 1300s. For centuries, you could only have a singular priority.
Then, as recently as the early 1900s, the word 'priorities' (plural) starts to appear.
