And it may be harmless sentiments, it may serve brand visibility, or it may help spread something more serious (and/or harmful). Also seemingly unrelated but very much connected: TikTok years ago had the option for users to block all videos with a particular sound and they REMOVED it.

...I would die for [pet name]." Most of those are real accounts by real people, but it illustrates how, with a bit of luck, you could come up with a concept or idea on your own, create umpteen accounts expressing that, and then get a gazillion users parrot or counter it; either way, it spreads.

Something that may seem unrelated but isn't: Social media platforms are full of users seeking a sense of community or belonging and many find that in parroting comments. Just look underneath a cut cat/dog picture or video that goes viral and spot how many variations on "Not to sound dramatic but...

...voices of reason. It's as if they never had a role in it. Except they had, but they want YOU to take responsibility because YOU got tempted to either parrot or counter the incendiary stuff they had people churn out online. Watch the messengers. Spot the patterns. And please don't feed them.

Except 100 accounts may only be 5 people, really, two of whom got paid by media brands who didn't care for one ideology or another, they just wanted to drive audiences, so they stoked fires until the UK literally whipped up riots, and now those very media brands are repositioning themselves as...

It's scary how extremist viewpoints became common and accepted just by having a handful of people operating countless Facebook and Twitter accounts repeat them over and over again. First that desensitised people, than it got people to adopt it because the "[number] of people can't be wrong", right?

I really wish people would stop engaging with nameless, faceless accounts claiming no identity except leanings usually not even reflected in their posts. Any drive to prove strangers on the internet wrong risks opening you up to exploitation by goodness-knows-who-is-behind-these-accounts.
