First two records i ever bought, as a child...was this (i remember thinking "a double album this must be great") and, the soundtrack to the movie Super Fly...which 9 year old me wanted desperately to see, but had to rely on the reviews from my 3 older sisters. Hahaha, musical memories.

Name a record where if you listen to one song, you have to listen to the whole thing. 1997's Medazzaland by Duran Duran. Unpopular and unlike anything they'd done, this is a weird and dark look at death and loss. No glossy pop Rio here. Sparse, slow, and introspective. Unexpected but loved.

This was a staple at WFDD, the Wake Forest University campus radio station that I somehow picked up in Virginia and listened to intently in the late 70s and early 80s. "Pointy Shoes" from the same Lp was a hit on alternative stations. "Thrash" is excellent too.
