“People like Maxim — who refuse to become silent accomplices to the Kremlin’s crimes — are saving our country’s honor amid this current darkness. And it will be they who will lead Russia back to normality once the drawn-out nightmare of Putin’s rule is over.”

It looks like every media company in American that covers the Pentagon except OAN is refusing to sign Hegseth’s ultimatum.

The folks at Homeland Security have cleared all the migrants out of Guantanamo Bay again, moving the most recent batch back to the U.S.A.
The 8-month-old mission staffed by more than 600 troops, contractors and ICE agents has held fewer than 700 migrants. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/02/u...

‘Griffin-Gracy’s work as an activist ranged from her work on behalf of people suffering with HIV and AIDS in the early 1980s, to launching San Francisco’s first mobile needle exchange, to her championing of the abolitionist movement, often prioritizing trans women.’

‘But when individuals claim their African-, Italian-, Japanese- or other heritage as a part of their identity, they aren’t disavowing their American-ness. Rather, they are invoking a unique cultural narrative that has shaped their path and relationship to this country.”

Is the strong uptick for political oppression? Arrests at rallies and protests? Or some other surge? (Honest question, not snark)

Billionaire corporations are already seeing the money roll in from the giant tax giveaways Donald Trump and the Republicans stuffed into their Big, Beautiful Bill.

What about working Americans? They're losing their health care, and their costs just keep going up.

It's shameful.

As I told @markjacob.bsky.social, Chicago journalists are doing a helluva job covering the ICE incursion of our city. The dogged, on-the ground- reporting reveals what's actually happening, not what ICE wants you to believe.

‘Governors Pritzker (and) Newsom…grasp Miller’s theory of the case, and they are responding in kind, with their own war for attention, on the intuition that voters will side with the rule of law over authoritarian dictatorship—if they are presented with this as a clear choice.

This powerful JB Pritzker response to Trump's lawless threats is another reminder of what I tried to argue this morning: Pritzker understands Stephen Miller's theory of this moment, and he's responding accordingly:

Our authoritarianism is run on clichés borrowed from the Eastern Europe of twenty years ago. Paid protestors, disloyal cities, evil Soros, vast conspiracies — it was all tiresome then and there, and now it’s pathetic.

Trump: "They're, like, insurrectionists, they're terrible people. But you really wonder why. Why are they doing it? What are they gaining? Other than they're obviously paid. They're paid a lot of money."

The coal industry has been shrinking for a reason: Coal is no longer cost-competitive.
There are more students enrolled at say Penn State than there are workers left in the coal industry (about 40k).
