Second attempt, first post disappeared. Sulphur Tuft, Hypholoma fasciculare, lots of it appearing just now. #fungi @scotwildlife.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

Haha! Didn’t even notice it was last year! 0/10 for observation😐

Only just seen this post, I haven't seen a Sundog since "the Big Snow" in December 2010, from my sitting room window in Edinburgh! Nice birdwatching autumn migration too btw!

Burgundydrop Bonnet, Mycena haematopusa, bit past it's best, but still gorgeous. Bawsinch last week #fungi @scotwildlife.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

I had the privilege of attending the Scottish Women’s Hospitals end of WWI commemoration in 1998 at Royaumont Abbey, outside Paris. I represented my great aunt who was an ambulance driver on the front.

Was a great day in the sunshine. Was up the Water of Leith. Looking at mostly insects and fungi, but saw a Dipper, Pink-footed Geese overhead and an adult Buzzard with a juvenile calling from trees!

Yeah looks like Fuligo septica, I prefer the common name Flowers of Tan (from the French) or Scrambled Egg Slime Mould. There’s another one called (common name) Dog Sick Slime Mould. No idea what the difference is, probably a microscope job!

Aw, sorry you didn’t see the Spoonbill but Marsh Sandpiper made up for it. Nice collection of sightings too.
joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social
Saw the Ring-necked Duck but not the Mandarin. Did you see the female Shoveler there, last year?
joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social
😂😂 Local twitching is ok!! There were 5 or 6 Spoonbills about 6 years ago at Buist’s Embankment near Tynningehame. Saw them there but not close.

Not been yet and out all day tomorrow with Edinburgh Nats (ENHS). Might go Sunday or through the week. Hopefully still there. Good luck, hope you see it.

I wondered if this tiny feather might be from Long-tailed Tit, but don't see it on Featherbase under Aegithalos caudatus. Seen yesterday at Bawsinch NR Any ideas? @birdinglothian.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social @scotwildlife.bsky.social @scottishbirding.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

Striated Earthstar, Geastrum striatum, past its best but nice to see. Also tiny Sessile Earthstar, Geastrum fimbriatum, I haven't seen its 'egg' before. #fungi @scotwildlife.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

Managed to grab an iPhone pic of the (so-called) Harvest Supermoon between banks of cloud. At 7.25pm, we are too low to see it rising any earlier. Harvest time it may be but I don’t get the super bit! @metoffice.gov.uk

Two #SlimeMoulds at Loch Pityoulish on 20/09/2025. Flowers of Tan aka Scrambled Egg Slime Mould (Fuligo septica) on Scots Pine stump and False Puffball (Reticularia lycoperdon) on dead Birch @cairngormsnews.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

Quite a decent colony when I visited two years ago. I didn’t count plants though.
joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social
They were all the way up the trunk, a lovely sight!

Back in June, we hosted a team from #GardenersWorld to share how we’ve been improving the grounds of the National Museums Collection Centre for biodiversity. 🎬 🐞🪰🌿🌼

Behind the scenes from our day of filming. Here I’m crouched down in one of the grassland areas looking at an orchid, with camera operator Gavin and producer Charlotte.

Watched it last night. Great message being carried to Gardeners World watchers. Nice to see Dorothy in there too! Bravo🙏🏻
