Today, 144 years ago, 1600 Crown troops invaded a pacifist settlement that was the centre of resistance against British colonialism. The leaders were arrested, the settlement sacked, the people violated.

For many in Aotearoa, November 5th is Parihaka Day, or Te Rā o te Pāhua: The Day of Plunder.

2 of my fave shows in the 1960s were Star Trek & Dr Who. Fave authors included Asimov, Pohl, Le Guin, Silverberg, Herbert and Heinlein. I (F) was watching & reading Sci-Fi before that idiot was even born. And I wasn't alone, we just didn't talk about it with guys cos of attitudes like this.

And the number of illnesses kids are catching these days due to poor air quality & also Covid leading to depressed immune systems. 7 yr old grandie, who's had Covid 3 times, has had Flu A 3 times & RSV twice in last 18 months & got Shingles (at 7!) She loves school but is well below 90% attendance.
