I really wish using the term "kakistocracy" (rule by the worst) didn't make me sound like such a nerd, because it's by far the most useful rubric for understanding this administration, and MAGA in general.
I know it's tough, and I'm sure he's worked hard to build a brand and industry reputation, but at a certain point you've just gotta bite the bullet and start going by "Gerald."
Also, notably, it was the greed and selfish hoarding-madness of the Dwarves who built Erebor that drew the dragon there in the first place.
#4 is good for the reasons you mentioned, if the train isn't full, but as a larger fella I usually go for #1 when I can get it.
Before that they were notorious line-steppers, constantly walking right up to the edge of what they could say about Affirmative Action/Black students generally without getting shut down.

Also, I straight-up don't believe you never heard homophobic & Islamophobic slurs in the Bush-era YR.
I believe that you, personally, weren't racist and didn't encounter any racism as overt as was revealed in these group chats. But, for example, the Young Republicans-affiliated conservative student paper at my college got shut down in the aughts because they published VERY racist cartoons.
Well, look at it from his perspective: somebody showed him the footage and now he has to update the nudie-tracker app he shares with his son. Think about how embarrassing that must've been for him.
Whole lotta Republicans failed to apply Chesterton's Fence to the Cordon Sanitaire before tearing it down in pursuit of "youth outreach," and now their party is staffed entirely by 4chan Nazis.
EXCLUSIVE: Thousands of leaked messages show leaders of Young Republican groups joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape in a private Telegram chat.

My dad used to go to the boardwalk in Portsmouth NH once a year to make damn sure he still held the skee-ball high scores. Powerful Boomer energy.
Quick note: this also leaves aside all of the non-Jewish/Israeli sources of those smears, including (most notably) basically the entire Trump campaign/administration. It has been the policy of the US gov't that ceasefire protests ARE antisemitism since at least Jan 20.
I believe that you, personally, never called anyone an antisemite just because they called for a ceasefire, and that you also personally advocated for a ceasefire. But that wasn't nearly as universally true as you suggest.
Both of those statements are manifestly untrue. Huge swathes of the American Jewish establishment (ADL, AIPAC, DMFI, etc.), as well as most of the opposition politicians in Israel, smeared all anti-war protesters as antisemitic (including the Jewish ones), and openly opposed calls for a ceasefire.
I think by saying "his father made him think that way" she's implying that Coates inherited some amount/kind of antisemitism from his father. Which, if it's true, hasn't actually shown up in any of Coates's writing or public statements and is inconsistent w/ his prior endorsement of Zionism.
Serious suggestion for an "Italian-American Holiday" to replace that function of Columbus Day (and bonus, there's already a bunch of statues of him in NY and other major cities):
Statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi in NYC's Washington Square Park. Garibaldi is standing in bronze on a marble pediment, inscribed with the words "GARIBALDI 1807 - 1882". He is standing with his left foot forward, drawing his sword.
I feel like a big part of his crashout right now is him realizing that a huge part of his long-term audience is "liberals who know he doesn't agree w/ them on everything, but think he's funny and his heart's in the right place," and he may have done real damage to his relationship w/ that crowd.
I'm not even a believer, but I do wish Jesus had just said "Sorry, no rich guys. Give it away or else." instead of being all poetical about camels and the eye of a needle. We all know what he meant, but you can't give these people an inch or they'll take a mile.
The rate at which people who self-describe as a "curmudgeon" (especially in a social media bio) turn out to just be huge, boring dorks is approximately 100%.
Get ready for 2026, The Riyadh Comedy Festival II: The Laughter Continues!

I'm sorry, I'm being told that's a typo, it's *Slaughter. The Slaughter Continues.
That feels a little like cheating, since the whole reason she got recruited to run for office was being an Instagram/Maxim model (in a very Trumpian kind of way)

Sirianni and the Eagles seem hell bent on discovering all of the formations and plays that fit the rubric of "highly effective despite looking and feeling like dogshit to anyone who actually enjoys football."
The Congregationalists are alright, but they all live in New England, so we're not really worried about them.
One of my last remaining bits of hope for the future of the country is these people's complete and total lack of ability to *be professionals* for more than two or three minutes at a time. None of them has an ounce of discipline or restraint, both of which are necessary to consolidating authority.
The chuds got way too confident about their ability to boycott stuff after the Bud Light mess, because none of them were smart enough to realize that light lager being a totally fungible, commoditized product was the only reason that worked as well as it did.
