They certainly are. Camera isnt doing a particularly good job but the RF from the same Speccy is terrible on my daily driver.

I love trying out custom ROMs, and would love to fiddle with my own but not being able to get my head around asm kinda prevents that 😄 (although I'm sure I could manage to change the font and copyright message of the standard 48K as a starting point)

Its a nice little device. No BASIC extensions or anything like that so hopefully none of the problems that things like divmmc and spectranet can introduce.

Had a new toy arrive today. The SMART Card from Retroleum.

Has the usual SD card snap 'n tap loading stuff, but also has space for 16 ROM images (including 32K and 64K variants) - all managed from the device itself.

Also has an NMI button for doing NMI things.

The SMART Card is a rather fetching black PCB

Easily swap the standard ZX Spectrum ROM out for a custom ROM.

All ROMs are managed from the device itself.

NMI menu includes options for taking snapshots, tape control and POKEs.

Doing a pkg upgrade on a fresh NomadBSD install, 1281 packages being extracted to a USB disk is taking its time but still not as bad as waiting for Windows 11 to do updates.
